Does anyone know if there is decreased absorption of oral steroids post R-N-Y? I've had an asthma flare and am on oral steroids and they are not working...they gave me steroid injection which has helped, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything definitive?

I don't know.  I have taken steroids twice since surgery... both times helped. but neither time was for asthma.

I don't know about the meds with RNY. My son's girlfriend who has asthma has had major trouble with the inhalers. The doc told her they had changed the propellant and it had an effect on the way the med was delivered to your airway. I am not sure if it is the same with you but just an idea. He switched her to two other meds and finally it helped. Good luck I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I just spoke to the NP who works with my surgeon and she said there is nothing in the literature indicating a decreased absorption of steroids or other meds....so I guess this is just a coincidence.

I don't know but when I was going to my dermatologist to treat my rosacea I was told by my surgeon that I couldn't take the medicine I was being prescribed after having the RNY because I was not going to absorb it all. It would be a waste of money.

Also, I was told that taking birth control pills after RNY will most likely be not absorbed properly resulting in pregnancy.

I imagine that is why you was not getting any relief and the injection worked.  But you can ask your surgeon to see what he or she says.

Good luck and I am glad that you got relief.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
