CONGRATS ANGIE!
I AM GLAD THAT YOU ARE DOING SO WELL, AND I KNOW YOU WILL LOVE YOUR SLEEVE! IT'S SO FUNNY THAT YOU LOVE YOUR ICE WATER, USUALLY THAT IS PRETTY TOUGH RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE. I THINK IT TOOK ME 6 MONTHS TO DRINK WATER, WITHOUT IT MAKING A  U-TURN! LOL  I HAVE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE MENTIONED A DRAIN, THAT IS UNCOMFORTABLE FOR YOU OR ANYONE. WHAT DRAIN ARE YOU REFERRING TO? WHEN I AWOKE FROM SURGERY, I ONLY HAD MY IV'S AND CATHETER (YUCK!) I WAS WONDERING WHAT THAT DRAIN WAS! ANYWAY, KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING!  YOU HAVE DONE A WONDERFUL JOB!  KEEP SIPPING AND MOVING!  I'M ROOTING FOR YOU, LESLIE:)

Thanks Leslie!

I'm hoping that me loving ice water, especially this early out, is a good sign! lol.

It's a JP - Jackson Pratt drain.  It is there to help drain any extra abdominal fluids after surgery - quite common really.  I don't love it, and the area it is in is the only area i'm having any discomfort still.  Will be curious to see how much tubing they have in there. I get it taken out tomorrow thank God!

Angie, thanks for explaining the drain. I was unsure what it was there for. Hubby had lung surgery and I can remember his chest drain and man when it came out I was shocked. I hope you get it out soon. Good luck.

Angie that is wonderful news that you are feeling great! I had open RNY and my first week was not to bad but not good! I went home with a drain that when My husband was cleaning it and putting new bandages on it he touched it and must of done something because the pain was unbearable!!!! I had to live with that pain for 3 more days till my next doc appt to get that and the staples out! Once it came out sleeping on the bed was the best thing!

The protein drinks are hard to get down at first but once you learn to doctor them up, they will be easier

Your doing a great job!!!!

thanks Kelli!  I sure hoep that once my drian is out I can sleep in bed too. That was encouraging to hear!

The problem with protein drinks is that I really prefer ice water right now, and nothing else.  It'll get better for sure.  I made one last night with Lactaid milk and put it on ice and it took me an hour, but I got down all 8 oz.

Yup once that drain is out you will be back in bed! I dont remember how long it was but it was quick coming out and not to painful...discomfort but not painful.......Take some pain meds before you go, if your not driving so that it wont bother you and be to late to take anything!

Good for you! Gloat all you need :) I think just getting the protein in is such a big effort. did you ever get a pillow that helps with the back?
