I am just curious has any one on this board had surgery done in mexico?  I have heard that it is a lot cheaper, the nurses and doctors seem to care more for the patients. Also if you have had it done in mexico was the cost tax deductable?  Just exploring some options.  any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Lori,

I only knew of one person that went to have surgery over there and has had nothing but complications after surgery.  I don't know about doctors out there but I would be too darn worried to even try.  Just my opinion of course.

How are you and Zell doing?  Aren't you going to get a new insurance in April?

Lori,

I think that there are many on the main board that could answer you.  Why not post it there and have a wider audience to ask.

Go to the INTERNATIONAL forum, and to MEXICO.  I think it's in there.  There are certainly many EXCELLENT Dr.s here, without going out of the country.  I'd sure like to be in Mexico, right now, though, got to be warmer than here!!!

My sister-in-law's 30 something year old cousin had it there because they wouldn't do it here since she was only 50 pounds overweight.  She had complications when she came back and died from an infection.  Left behind two small daughters.

I follow the blog of a girl who had DS in Mexico about three years ago - she's done very well and has had no complications.  The blog is called Change is Good...Changing for the Good.  She's planning on having her plastics done in Mexico as well.

Lori, which surgery are you going for?   If you want the VSG, post this or a similar question on the VSG board and you will get TONS of response.  You will also find some stateside doctors, with great reputations, for comparable costs.

I would worry about infection and then post op travel where you run the risk of clots.  I had my surgery at Harford Memorial through Upper Chesapeake Barriatrics and the doctors, office staff and nurses at the hospital were all wonderful.  You don't have to go out of the country for nice people.
