I didn't have Dr. A but wanted to welcome you to the Maryland Board.  You'll find a bunch of very supportive people here with a vast amount of knowlede.

Thanks to all of  you who've been so supportive already.  I had my first appointment, it went great. And I found out I am well on my way to scheduling surgery.  Next steps...

Psych consult - tomorrow morning (eek!!!)
Nutrition Consult - Thursday afternoon
Get letter from PCP stating she's been supervising my weight loss attempts for past 6+ months
Insurance approval (if I don't have a panic attack and die while waiting on it)
Scheduling surgery!

At age 25, and based on whatever he bases these things on, he said no need for a stress test/EKG or sleep study.  I will have to do a thorough physical with chest xray when I'm a couple weeks out from surgery but otherwise, I'm good to go.

It's moving faster than I imagined and I can't wait! My little cousin got her realize band 1 month ago and has lost 15 lbs and she told me today she doesn't really follow the rules. Ugh... She's only 18 and probably isn't mature enough to have gotten it but her parents urged her to. For me, no way! I will follow every rule to the most anal retentive measure possible because I'm determined to milk this thing for all it's worth.  I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I went through all this just to cheat.

So here I am, getting in the spirit. But super nervous something will go wrong with insurance approval.

Once they had all my info and submitted it to the insurance, it was only about 2 weeks until I got my approval.  At that point they would have scheduled me about 2 weeks later but I had a wedding to go to so I pushed back.  It was so much faster than I expected!!!

Good luck!

Man, is this thing moving quickly! I had my psych consult which went really well. We laughed, we cried - or at least I did.  If anyone out there is reading this, Mary at Dr. A's office is great for the psych consult and I highly recommend her.

Nutritionist is tomorrow AND I got a call from the scheduler yesterday to ask about my 6 month supervised diet stuff which "may or may not" be asked for by my insurance (huh?) So, I have an appointment with my PCP again tomorrow morning to take her the paperwork and get the sign off. She likes that idea better than writing a letter anyway.

I am getting so nervous about this becoming a reality so soon but in a very good way. I am hoping to get banded right around my 26th Birthday (3/26) because I have a good window of time where I'm not out of town or doing anything crazy and can utilize that time. What an amazing birthday present it would be. I always thought turning 26 on the 26th was going to be a special one.

The big hurdle now is the insurance but heck, people with UHC here seem to have had good experiences.

You are well on your way!  I wasn't required for anything but the sleep study... My PCP wanted the cardio clearance and I went ahead and got one, but even they just made me do a quickie test - no stress test or anything like that!

The insurance is always the biggest hurdle... leaving your fate in someone else's hands is always nerve wracking!!

Congrats on getting so much done!! I told you making the decision to take the steps towards having surgery is one of the biggest hurdles!

And you were right :)

No sleep study or stress test for me, but I do have the whole pre-op workup thing. I am SO incredibly lucky to have my PCP in my office building so I can see her whenever I want. I only have to go out somewhere else for the pre-op chest xray.  Once I get a date, I'll worry about those things though. Come on, insurance, do your thing!!

I went to St. Agnes for my chest Xray - I am sure I could have found somewhere else but since the only time I had ever been to the hospital was for the seminar - and nerves were getting the best of me that night, I wanted to have some idea of where I was going the morning of surgery... so I hiked down there!

I would love to have my PCP here in the building!  She is only 3-4 miles from work, but still!  I might see her more often (her idea, not mine!) if she was HERE and I had no real good excuse!  *Grins*
