My surgeon told me to wait 12 months and I did exactly that. I had one cranberry/vodka and was WASTED!!! LOL!! Luckily I was on a cruise ship and could just escorted back to my room by my friend :-)

Now when I drink its either red wine or cran/vodka. I deal with those ok but I try and make sure I am eating as well.

we were told no alcohol for 6 months.  this is not a problem for me as I'm not a drinker...
i know lots of girls who do vodka and cranberry juice...

Just be super duper careful honey!!! You can get drunk FAST! I dont drink so I really dont know but Mike worked with a woman at the USCG who had WLS and she died a year out from drinking so its very scary. I dont know if there was more involved with her death but she was out drinking with friends and I know they told them it was due to her malabsorption of the alcohol. Just be careful baby girl. I was not given any time frame on drinking.  I didn't even ask honestly.  The only caution we were given was the CALORIES as we all know alcoholic bevs are loaded with sugar and calories - most of them anyway. I didn't have a new "stomach" or anything moved with my band so I didn't freak out about timing.  I had a drink 1.5 months out of surgery and got buzzed QUICK...1 was all I needed.

I'm not a big drinker anymore anyway so when I want something I have it.  I'm not doing shots or chugging - I'd be on the floor.  Last week I had two drinks Kahlua and Milk ( got some protein in)  and after those 2 - TOAST!  I went to sleep.

Now if I were giving suggestions about drinks that are low calorie.  I lost alot of weight in 2006 and drank almost every weekend.  I'd drink Vodka and Crystal Light.  I'd take my CL packs to the bar and order a vodka and water in  tall glass haha.  That's what you do when you are sucking up the last of your 20's and trying to behave calorie wise.  I'd probably do the same still if I went out "drinking".  I got that tip off a low carb/low calorie  forum back when I was dieting. Vodka has about 70 calories per shot generally 1oz of alcohol.  Vodka, Tequila, Rum, Gin and Scotch I believe are the lowest anything like a schnapps or mixed drink with juice etc is major calories.

If only I had some vodka to put in this protein shake I could take a nap on my lunch break

Hi Lisa,
I think in my original papers about VSG it said 9 months. Like everyone else I know people who have followed the rule and people who follow no rules! Just this past weekend, I had my 1st sip, okay shot, of alcohol and I am 11 months out! I am not a drinker, so this was easy. If need be, I could go without alcohol forever! Do not ask me about Diet Soda(yikes!) Hope this helps, Leslie:)

I had a jello shooter and 2 mixed drinks and yeah it got me drunk. Now I wont drink again for a long time.Just wanted to try and see.
