hey all,

my surgeon and nut told me no beef for a year. i was looking at the feedbag post and i saw beef stew and roast and such.

now i know for a fact i cannot tolerate fat. i even tried smoked chicken with a horrible result.

so when did you guys and gals surgeons and nuts tell you you could have beef stuff? im not talking steak or greasy burgers, of course, but sheesh i might like some beef stew!

i will most certainly wait a year because thats what i was told to do. i was just curious.

thanks !

I was not given any restrictions on beef (I even ate it at the pureed stage in chili).

we had no beef restrictions and I had ground beef with taco seasoning once I got to pureed foods.  I've had steak as well.  I just chew it very well. and eat small amounts.

No beef restriction for me either. I was told if it was tender enough for serious chewing or blenderized then I could eat it. I don't know that I would try steak at this moment but I'm eating a beef stew soup by progresso that is pretty darn good and the meat is VERY soft.

I didnt have any restrictions on beef. However I do have a friend that had RNY that did have a one year restriction on red meat. She had a different surgeon than I did though.

No restrictions here... they just say the most tender cut you can afford.  I haven't attempted too much beef yet though. I've stuck to chicken, pork, and fish for the most part.

No beef restriction here either.  Was able to have it in chili for the pureed stage.  However, I've had issues with burgers made with very lean beef.  For steak, the leanest cuts work best though.  I don't eat a ton of beef but when I do, it's usually in a stew or sauce of some kind.

Don't know why, but all surgeons and nuts have their own protocol!

Brian -

I didn't have any restrictions, but paid severely the first time I tried steak at 1 month post-op.  OMG!!!  It got stuck and hurt so badly that my pouch ached like a sore muscle for three days after that.

Even now, at 4+ years post-op, I sometimes have a hard time with beef - I can't do compacted meat, like burgers or meatloaf, but can do ground beef in chili, stews and such with no problem.

Just remember, as with anything you try, it's trial and error.

Hugs,

Tia

We had no beef restrictions... I had chili at about 2 weeks out...  At about 4 months out I tried steak at Outback with no problems, but of course I chewed, chewed, chewed because I was worried! :)

No restrictions here either. I would have died. I love my beef. If I could only have 1 meat and nothing else, it would have to be beef!

I had a lot of stuff I made with ground beef during my pureed stage. I just made sure to cook it and cook it and cook it with plenty sauce and get the lowest in fat. I think I got the 97% from Costco.

If you make stew, just make sure the beef pieces are as tender as can be. Even then, chew them as long as you can.
