Changes in Food Preferences?

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced changes in food preferences while doing the pre-op and post-op stuff?

There are a few foods that I'm not currently a fan of that I'm hearing would be good for me to eat, and, I wonder if I'll ever learn to like them?

I've also heard that some post-op people can't handle regular milk, so my mother in law thinks maybe I should start drinking soy milk in preparation for life post op...

Any Suggestions?

Hello!
Before surgery I LOVED milk. I also drnk crystal lite like it was going out of style!
Since my surgery in June, I can not tolerate milk.....I drink the Silk soy milk....the chocolate is devine! Crystal lite...now it makes me cringe! It tastes way to sweet!
Overall, my tastes have not really changed.....things seem alot sweeter to me now tho.
But keep in mind, everyone is different! What you may like now, you may not after surgery.....and then what you like at week two after surgery, you may not like at week 14 and vice versa.
Good luck on your journey!

i used to love orange flavored anything, and i hated anything peach (except peaches, i loved them). now anything orange tastes to me like peaches and i cant stand it! ewww.

i can tolerate milk, so i drink skim. i dont like soy milk. i hate crystal light also. i liked yogurt before surgery, and for the first month after surgery i liked yogurt, now i cannot bring myself to even open any yogurt.

thats my experience so far, and i am sure i have more to learn.

YES!! My tastes changed DRASTICALLY after surgery! I didnt like milk pre-op but post-op for the first 6 months I couldnt tolerate it at all and had to use Soy Milk with my protein shakes.  Now I LOVE Organic Skim milk! So I wouldnt worry to much about finding stuff you like now because that may drastically change.

Fore example pre-op I LOVED the Unjury Protein, now if that stuff comes within 10 feet of me it makes me want to hurl...lol

Everything tastes sweeter to me now... but not much has changed for me.  I HATE tomatoes, but I like grape tomatoes now.... that's it really.

i hated milk before surgery now both my husband and I drink a gallon every two days... (neither of us developed lactose intolerance which is common)...

hubby never ate spicy food before surgery due to heartburn, now he loves his food very spicy.

OMG yes I like most everyone else had my taste buds turned upside down! I was asking for things I never ate in my life like cauliflower lol and turning away things I use to LOVE like eggs and milk. I cant tolerate EITHER of them even still a year out!!! We all go through some changes but after a while we can get back to what we once enjoyed. (((Hugs)))

i enjoyed spicy before but love it even more now. my taste buds are more refined now. i can't eat anything w/ too much sugar or too fried. i never liked hummus or sushi before but love it now. you may just have to see what happens and roll w/ the punches. as for soy milk, i can not tolerate soy so can't drink it. plus i think they add sugar to it. tasted sweet the one time i tried it.

I had a problem with milk causing gas for the first several months, but used almond milk instead.  That went away and I drink at least 12 oz. of skim milk every day.

The only thing that has changed as far as tastes, is that I like lemon flavored things more now.

Hope that helps,
Heather

Milk doesn't bother me now...I thought it did immediately after surgery, but turns out I have an intolerance to splenda - no go for me.

I used to love jello before surgery.  No even the smell makes me gag.

I tasted a potato chip yesterday and found it disgusting.

I will eat any kind of veggie now - but I always loved veggies anyway.

I can not stand crab - before surgery I loved it.  Now, I can't stand the taste.  I tried some the other night on a salad and ended up giving it to my husband.

A bunch of protein shakes that I liked before surgery I can no longer stand.  I pretty much stick to EAS Myoplex Lite shakes now.
