Kelly......
As for the liquids......as Nessa said, broth. The unjury chicken broth was really good. Water, water & more water! Also try some s/f popsicles.
Pain.....I tend to think that varies person to person. I had some issues so my pain lasted longer than some.
Nausea....my doc wrote me a script for Reglan which REALLY helped. Just talk to your doc.
I hope you get to feeling better soon! And welcome to the losers bench girly!
If you need anything, I am here!
~hugs~

No Matter How I May Change, I Will Still Be ME!!!!
Water with lemon or lime
Broth
S/F popsicles
plain water
Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry ****tail diluted with water
Hot decaf tea
My pain subsided on day 7, but everyone is different. They gave me liquid tylenol with codiene and that helped. Get lots of rest - your body is trying to repair, and walk walk walk. Stay hydrated.
I had a BM my third day home. I would say if you haven't had one by the end of the day today call the office and see if you need to do anything special - Dr. Fullum should have left his pager number on your discharge papers - Dr. McKenna did with me.
I was only nauseated when I ate jello...blech...I found if I didn't do ice cold liquids. I still can't drin**** cold liquids - I have them at room temp. Also, hot tea helps with nausea.

for a protein that does not have a sweetness to it but isn't too strong tasting you might want to try egg white protein. here is the brand i use: Click HERE!

Warm liquids went down better for me. Decaf tea was a life saver.
Your doc can prescribe something for nausea. Are you only nauscious after you eat/drink? It was really tough for me to get down my fluids and I too felt a little sick if I forced it.
Once the drain is out, you will feel a MILLION times better I promise!

Lisa, we don't have a drain when we get out so I guess thats a bonus I hated the one in my knee. I'm actually feeling fairly good today so maybe this is the turn in the road. I was kinda thinking about trying some mushies but I realize that would be "cheating" so I don't want to start anything bad. I will just wait until Wednesday.

Hey Kelly!!
Glad to see you back online! Seems you had it a little rough, huh? I'm sorry.... I guess I was one of the lucky ones. My pain was comparable to doing a lot of sit-ups without warming up first, more muscle soreness than anything else....and the only time it was an issue was trying to turn over in bed. I never had any nausea, so I guess I ought to feel blessed. As for the sweet or fatty taste of the proteins, I mostly drank beef broth with Any Whey unflavored protein powder stirred in (but make sure the broth is not too hot or the protein powder turns into something from outer space!) and IsoPure ready-to-drink protein (it might be too sweet for you, but to me, it tasted like adult koolaid!). I also drank fruit-flavored herbal tea (like Tangerine Orange Zinger) with half of one of the 40 gram New Whey orange protein bullets in a large cup - they are tart-tangy, and I would add one packet of Splenda, and the warmth of the tea made my pouch feel better (I'll bet it would help with the nausea, too). Do yourself a favor - if you're at all nauseated, DON'T eat. Throwing up is not pleasant at this stage (well, when is it EVER?). Just make sure that you're getting in ALL of your liquids, and as much protein as you can.
As for the poo - watch out!!! On the third day that I was home, I had uncontrollable diahhrea, not once, but three times. It was bad enough that I not only had to shower, but had to clean up floor, cabinets, walls, AND do three separate loads of clothes. And I'll warn you, the stool was blackish and tarry looking, and that is from the blood from the surgery. It goes away quickly. THEN, you'll have the opposite problem. I am over 10 months out now, and have a serious problem with constipation, even though I eat as much fiber as I can get in, and take two Colace stool-softeners per day. I get so constipated that my stool turns into rocks. I finally found a way to deal with it, my problem is REMEMBERING to do it.... and that is to drink one cup of "Traditional Medicinals' Smooth Move" tea every day. It's made from the leaves of the Senna plant, and I've even tried using Sennokot (a laxative made from the same stuff - but it doesn't work for me like the tea does). I usually brew a big cup of Celestial Seasonings Mint Magic, and add a bag of the Chocolate-flavored Smooth Move to it. Let it sit and steep covered for 15 minutes, add a packet of Splenda, and down the hatch. I've found that one a day keeps me fairly regular.
Congratulations on joining us over here on the Loser's Bench!!!! You'll feel great in no time!!
Hugs,
Erica

Now that I look back it wasn't bad at all. Muscle pain was about the same. I think the most discomfort I had was on my left middle side which was probably where they stapled my tummy? All and all its not bad but boy is that diarrhea awful. Why don't they warn you! If it hadn't been for my OH friends I would have had a real embarassment!
Thanks for your support!! I see you only have 4 more pounds to goal woo hoo!!
