Spent the night in St Agnes

Tuesday night I started to have lower abdomin discomfort, which quickly progressed to all out pain, went to my doc Wednesday, Inflamed colon was suspected, They called Dr Averbach, who said he could see me at 3pm. Pain was so severe, I could not drive, so El took me down, Dr A suspected inflamed colon, immediatly admitted me to the hospital. I finally got to the CAT scan around 11:30 pm, was feeling SLIGHTLY better at that point, but still not great, I was back in my room shortly after midnight, and 36plus hrs of being awake took its toll and I managed to fall asleep. Now answer this for me,, why in the hell does the hospital staff insist on waking you for no reason? They woke me up at 2am to inform me I had a kidney stone, yippee,, that could have waiting until morning,,, oh well,,, managed to fall back asleep around 3,, they woke me up at 6 for normal vitals. Surprise, I was feeling better,, they asked me if I had peed yet,, "well no, considering I haven't had anything to drink in a day" I managed to pee for them, Dr came in shortly after and said I would probably go home today, Dr A stopped in and informed me to stop my Calcium. I had strongly doubted it was WLS related, but I am glad Dr A got involved.

So, I guess I got off lucky,, and am home now and pretty tired.

OMG!!!  I am SO sorry to hear this!  I know a lot of people who have kidney stones post-op, and are told to drink lemonade, as the citric acid helps prevent the formation of stones.

ouch Tom... I have never had one but I've heard that Kidney stones are very painful.  How do they plan to help you pass it?

Glad to hear it's not WLS related.  I, too, have heard that kidney stones for men are very painful.  We wish you a speedy recovery.  Keep us posted.

Honey!! If you need ANYTHING you know you can call or text me! Im glad your okay. They are the most painful things ever!!! I have been in the hospital 11 times in 4 years with them...........they are worse then labor pains for a woman! I cant even imagine the pain for a man. Im so sorry. I had to stop my calcium too for a while. Did they say any more were forming in either kidney? Will they give you Vit D shots to break them up? Either way I am so glad your not in that severe pain anymore..........just thinking of that pain makes me want  to VOMIT!!! (((Hugs)))

Well, stone was about 3mm, they are not planning on doing anything, they think it has, or will pass without any other problems. I guess if the stone is small enough, once it gets out of the kidney, it is "smooth" sailing from there. Dr A wants me to follow up with a Uroligist (sp) in a week.

Here's the best news, When they thought it was the colon, I was informed when they were done with the antibiotics and treatment, I would get,,,, gulp,,,, a colonoscomy. NOT something I was looking forward to having done.

Oh Tom, So sorry you had to deal with that much pain. I am glad you found out what the problem was. Hopefully it will pass on its own as I have heard they are oh so painful. I can never understand in the hospital they say rest but they wake you every chance they get.
I do hope you get some rest and start feeling better.

Oh that stinks,,, glad you're ok now...   I know what you mean about people waking you up in the middle of the night... I hate that!!!  I hope you're well soon!!!!

Oh wow Tom, I am sorry to hear you went through all the pain. I hear kidney stones are very painful.  I am glad your colon is fine though.  I hope and pray that the stone has passed.
