Cheating on this stupid diet!!!

Okay,
I have been hanging tough with this liquid diet and I knew it would take getting some use to. The first two days were horrible with hunger and headaches, but I felt mentally better yesterday.  My diet is supposed to be 3-4 Slimfast shakes a day, 1 lean cuisine meal, and 64 ounces of water.  I'm diabetic...shouldn't I be eating a litte more than this? Im supposed to keep my calories between 1000-1200. I think I have been for the most part, but definitely in the evening, I feel hungrier. Not binge hungry, but  "take-a-bite-of-ur-food" hungry.

I was on one board yesterday and this lady said she was on her preop diet and had scambled eggs, a slice of bacon and a cup of fruit.....I'd slay dragons to eat that right about now, lol. I just don't know what to do.

This is hard

I am sure you can have more than 64 oz of fluids.  what about some hot herbal tea at night?

Thanks Nessa,

I didn't think about tea.  I'm complete fine at work because its easy to stick to my plan, its when i get home, and I've been good these last couple of days, but I feel like I'm going to break at any moment.

Tomorrow, I'm off. That means I'll have a whole day at home, and if it snows I'll be home with 3 children. Preparing meals and snacks, and even though I don't mind that, it will be tempting. I'm not tempted at work.....all day at home could be a problem.....

Look at it this way, it's a good way to start your new lifestyle.  I kept telling myself, if I couldn't stick with the preop diet, then I wouldn't do well postop.  You're stronger than you think.  You can do it!  Drink lots of water to help fill you.  Good luck and hugs to you!

that's the spirit LOL. i wish i had been forced to do the pre op diet. i would have had a better outcome. i did lose 110 lbs but i have about 70 more to lose. i was not ready. this really makes you ready. just remember it is not forever. just take each moment as it comes. don't look into the future, just focus on this moment. doing the right thing for yourself right now. hope this helps!

That's the way!

you don't have to be happy.  you can whine ***** and moan all you want.

truth  be told, it's good for you and makes for and easier surgery.

just keep saying  I CAN DO HARD THINGS!

Honey the pre op diet is to shrink your liver so that they don't have to cut you open for surgery. You want it to be laproscopically done.............trust me you do!! But fatty foods make your liver swell. My Doc let me eat on my pre op diet tuna, eggs, turkey sandwiches on wheat bread etc. I had two meals a day and ONE shake a day and it wasn't allowed to be Slim fast. They were big against that for whatever reason. But you can do it just AVOID HIGH FATTY FOODS!! YOU CAN DO IT HONEY!!!! HANG IN THERE!!!!! And suck on sugar free mints or sugar free crystal light candies they curb your appetite!!!! (((Hugs)))

Jilly is so right about the liver thing.  My doc had me replace two meals with protein shakes and eat a "sensible" third meal.  I lost about 14 pouds the two weeks before surgery.  What I remember most about this is the pre-op conversation with my doctor about liver issues.  How she was going to take a biopsy of it if she didn't like the way it looked and how if it was a real problem she would have to do the procedure openly.  What I remember most about my recovery room stay was asking about my liver and her telling me - with a big smile on her face - that she didn't have to even biopsy it it looked so good.  She attirubted this to my pre -op diet

You don't want to do this in an open procedure.  Recovery looks so much harder.  Keep that in mind when you struggle - at the end it's all for the greater good
