Hi Lesley and welcome to OH!!  So nice to see another Eastern Shore person!  I'm in O.C. and had the lapband surgery, in Balto., in June. I gave all options lots of thought, prior to surgery, especially WHAT DR. TO GO TO.  Glad you also apparently made good decisions, too.  If you'd like to send me a private message, we can exchange e-mail addresses & phone #'s. DON'T GIVE UP, you're making the best decision, for a healthier life!

Lesley.....
Wow, another Eastern Shore face! I am also on the Shore, but on the Northern end!
I think being nervous, as you have read, is very normal! I also had my surgery at Bayview, but my doctor was Magnesun. It is a good group of people there! My surgery was 6/26/09....I left the hospital at 300 pounds and today I weigh 179! It is a long process, and it can be rough at times, but you will not regret it! Try to start implementing some of the after surgery changes into your lifestyle now & it will help you transition once you have surgery.
This is a great group of people here.....all your questions will be answered, and they do a marvelous job of offering support & friendship! You definitely came to the right place!
Welcome & enjoy!

Hey there Lesley!  Welcome to the MD board, and to OH.  I found this site to be soooo helpful in my journey, and it helped to hear everyone's story - really great for easing the anxiety.  Nerves are typical and normal!

Our starting weight is about the same.  I started at 321 last April - lost 17 pounds prior to surgery on November 10th, and now, two months out, weigh in at 263.  My RNY has been a godsend, as have the people on this board!

Good luck on your journey!

Welcome Lesley

Well as you can see by the number of responses there is a ton of support here for you.  I am three weeks post op and have to say I don't think I could have made it to the hospital that morning if not for all the knowledge and wisdom that I found here.  While it may be nerve racking - take the time to read everything you can on these boards and soak it in.  It is cliche but knowledge is power and the more you know up front the better you'll be equipped to deal with it when it's actually happening to you.

Bayview is a great place.  I had Dr. Steele - who I also adore.  The care there is outstanding.  While it is scary - if you follow the rules and do all they ask you to do - you'll do fine.  I know I am so happy to have had it done and I am only 3 weeks out.

Thank you to all that have post a reply to me. It has been a terrific surprise to see how many of you are in the amse place im at now. I ahve already changed my life style. I have already started protein shakes and 1200 calories. I work out 60 min a day and took away the soda even before i seen the surgeon. I have the support meetings and I can honestly say that this is something Im ready for. I so love that there are so many people out there that are and have been in my boat. Now i know that Im not going to be floating alone.

Hi Lesley and welcome!!

You are absolutely not alone!!!  There's great support, encouragement and friendship to be found here.

Just take your journey one day at a time and it'll be fine.  One thing, though - make sure, if/when you make phone calls or talk to anyone about your surgery, that you document their name and what they said.  You never know when you might need that.

Other than that, jump on in!

Hugs,

Tia

Welcome Lesley,
I had my surgery by Dr. Hien Nguyen too; you will love him.   I had a few issues that not everyone has but, Dr. Nguyen was always responsive and made himself available to talk to me.  The stay at Johns Hopkins Bayveiw could not have been better.  There is a portion of the 6th floor dedicated to gastric surgery and each patient has their own large private room.   This is the place to be for information and support - I am truly grateful that I found this site prior to my surgery.  Pam
