Home and unbanded

Hi everybody I m home and unbanded and hopefully in 3 months I'll get sleeved. Dr. Brody wanted to do the sleeve then but for my safety he said there was way to much scar tissue, He also said the band had slipped some and that he couldn't understand it he said he had stitched it all the way around and he asked me if I had been getting stuck with food lately I told him a little more than usual but I thought it was from my last fill. At this time i am telling everybody on OH if you are considering the band do alot of thinking. Some people will never have a problem with it and I was in the 35% that have failures and Dr. Brody said I was his poster child for the slip, the leaking, and the port rejecting from the body he has never had that problem but 1-3 times with it but not doing all 3 like mine did. Me personally will tell those considering the band not to get it. I wanted to be sleeved but the insurance company denied me 3 times so I gave up the fight and at 316 lbs. I had to make a choice so the band was the choice. Like I said don't get me wrong the band has done wonders with other people just not me. I am doing well with little or no pain and another thing when you get any of the bariatric surgeries ask the doc or his assistant to push as much gas out of you as possible at the end of surgery they did that for me and I have had no problems with gas pains at all other than passing it LOL.

I am so glad you're home and okay.  Thank God your doctor erred on the side of caution as far as doing the sleeve now or waiting.  Sounds like waiting is just the thing to do.

Hang in there and by all means, if you need anything, give a yell.

Hugs and love,

Tia

Dusty, sorry to hear it didn't work out well for ya.  Hopefully you'll get the sleeve you always wanted.

I'm really happy with my band - and I'm made aware of how fortunate I am that I don't have these problems.

Keep in touch - we like having you around!

Dusty,

I am so glad to se you posting already.  I am sorry you had so much trouble with the band. I am glad that your doctor decided to be very caustious.  I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a swift recovery. I can't wait to hear that the insurance finally approved your sleeve. In just a few months you will be back on the loser's bench celebrating!

Take care and make sure to let your body heal and do not over do it since you are already feeling pretty good.

Hugs,
Cira

Dusty,
Glad to hear that you are home and not having too much discomfort.  It is unfortunate that you've had such problems with the band.  Sure sounds like you are one of the few who have a silicone/latex sensitivity or intolerance to any foreign body, especially with the slip and the fact that the skin would not heal over the port.  Hoping that you will get the sleeve and be able to utilize that tool.

I love my band; it has not given me a minute's problem and has given me the tool I needed for loss and maintenance.  As we've all said, no one surgery is perfect, nor is it right for everyone.  Keeping a good thought for you that'll you'll get your sleeve and finally be on your way.

Take Care of Yourself,

Terri
