Protein Shakes

Pre-op and even for the first 3 weeks post-op, I had no problem with the protein shakes.  Now, I can barely choke them down.  I thought maybe it was a lactose issue, but I am at this moment, trying to drink one made with Lactaid.  Any ideas?  I have even tried different brands to no avail.  I have had Atkins, but I don't like the number of calories and fat, and think the protein level is too low.

Kris  I need more info.

I could not do the milky shakes after surgery for a couple of months.

I could however do the Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel protein drink.  ICE COLD and in a  sports bottle only...

also I add crystal light to it... (orange) that helps

for the milky shakes I add sugar free syrups and ice and make it cold and tastier...

Kris, you can try making them with water to see if that helps.  My saving grace for the first month or so after surgery were the Isopure protein drinks that you can buy at GCN and Vitamin Shoppe.  They are like juice or crystal light and have 40g protein per 20 oz.  They are a bit pricey but were worth it for me.

Hope that helps,
Heather

Jilly,

Interesting recipes -- I like your frozen skim milk and yogurt cubes -- great idea.  This page is getting bookmarked for sure.

Kris,

Eight weeks after surgery, I was introduced to Max Protein.  First protein drink postop that didn't make me nauseous.  I drink two of them each day now with a variety of Da Vinci syrups.  Hope you find something that agrees with you.

Oh, I could also tolerate Inspire's Ice Cream Sandwich which I ordered on line.

Good luck in finding something that agrees with you.

Debbie

Kris,

The only thing I can tolerate right now is Nector Chocolate Truffle (on sale now at Vitimin Shop in Columbia, $32 for 2#).  I make it with soy milk and peanut butter.  My husband tried a sip and said it was pretty good as well, it does not have a nasty after taste or smell to it.

Protein Powder, 1 scoop = 23g
Soy Milk, 8oz = 6g
Peanut Butter, 2TBS = 7g
TOTAL 36g for 8oz.

When I can tolerate the shakes more down the road I will switch to half soy and half water, or just all water.

Good luck!

The Unjury chocolate was good with skim milk but tasted kinda sweet to me. I got a can of Click Mocha for Christmas that I haven't tried but it isnt on my post op list so I may have to wait to drink it.

I have a question. I am supposed to drink 8 oz a day for the first week (of protein) 1 oz at a time. Will it be okay to make a whole 8 oz and divide during the day because I don't know how to make 1 oz servings and I absolutely can't get the canned drinks down. ??????

Try Gold Standard whey protein from the vitamin shoppe or GNC the shoppe is cheaper though. Evry flavor they have is great tasting it only has a little sugar in it. but that is the only protein I use except for occasionally some herbilife.
