UGH. My husband decided to order Dominos for himself and my daughter. He got a pasta bread bowl that smells soooooooo good. I keep giving him dirty looks lol.  He says to me "you're the one who wanted to be skinny". grrrrr.  What do you guys do to keep from going crazy when you smell yummy food that you cannot eat?

I had a yogurt a little bit ago... but smelling the food makes me feel like I could eat everything in sight. This is why I'm sitting on the computer, away from the food. I hope this phase passes.

Sorry to hear about this.  I don't know that I have much to offer.  I know that on the night after I got home from the hospital, the whole family was over for pizza.  It was with my ok.  I had no appetite so I could really focus on the emotional aspect of the experience.  My head definitely missed the pizza but my body had no interest.  I talke about it with my wife later and said it was as if I was mourning the food more so than hungry for it.  I wonder if that's what's going on for you?

I think you make a good point about mourning food. I doubt I could have eaten more than a bite and I probably would have regretted that! Especially since I'm still on pureed food.  The funny thing is, no matter how hungry I think I am, I can only eat a tiny bit at a time. I even struggle to get in a couple ounces of a protein shake! I have to really force myself to drink it to get the protein in... and I know I'm not getting in enough protein.  I'm just ready to move on to real food, even if it is a couple of bites worth lol.

I have to laugh!  On the night I came home from the hospital, my family ordered Dominos pizza too.  It smelled so good, but I felt so weak and tired that it didn't really bother me ... well, maybe, a little bit!   I do miss having my pizza -- it was a favorite of mine.  Now, I pop a few turkey pepperonis in the microwave and add some parmesan cheese on top and enjoy my pretend pizza.

Two words...Head Hunger!!  My husband had me stop at Checkers one evening when I was early out and ate it in the car on the way home.  OMG...it smelled heavenly.  I just kept sipping on my crystal light.  Until you can add something like that to your diet, in moderation, you just have to distract yourself.

Sorry!

My husband has done that too! ugh. I just give him dirty looks. I've told him that I think he's trying to sabotage me. He eats all this junk in front of me all the time.  Funny thing is, he claimed he was going to start a diet after my surgery.  That has not happened.

Lisa,
It is really weird but believe it or not, as much as you think u could eat the pizza, you really couldn't. I would be very surprised if you could take more than 1-2 bites. I know it sounds crazy but old habits die hard ! You smell the pizza, you eat 1 slice...2 slices...3? It is all routine, once you can tell the difference between what the body wants, and what the head wants(or think it wants) it becomes so much easier. Never easy, just EASIER! I hope this makes some sense, unfortunately I write like I talk....one long run- on sentence!  Take Care and Good Luck! Don't be so hard on yourself you're doing fantastic ! Leslie:)

try to stay strong and take advantage of this time, where you will lose the most. I did not and am still overweight because of it. i know it is hard but keep at it. maybe ask your husband not to eat those things around you. sounds like maybe he doesn't want you to lose weight?
