Took a Walk...

Took a walk around the mall today, since it's so bitterly cold and windy outside. People are still rude as ever. Ah, the holidays lol.  My daughter cried on Santa's lap. At first I thought she was going to be okay because she walked up to him.. but she'd have nothing to do with sitting on his lap. I even went to Ruby Tuesdays and got white chicken chili.... of course I'm on pureed now, so technically I was bad.. but I chewed and chewed and chewed. I only ate a tiny bit anyway.  The waiter probably thought I was nuts for eating a couple spoonfuls and taking the rest home. That'll make another 2 or 3 meals for me.. not bad for $3.99.

Oh, I had my 1-week post-op yesterday. Everything's looking good. No one told me how long the drain tube would be or that it actually hurts your CHEST when it comes out. OMG I was not expecting that at all... felt like a heart attack lol. But I survived of course. The nurse said if I keep losing 2lbs a day, I'm going to disappear LOL. I don't see that quite happening!

I hope everyone is staying warm! I'm about to go cuddle up in some covers and rest a bit since I got some walking in today.

Glad your getting out and about!  Braving Ruby Tuesday's even better!  I so would ahve been in tears over a bacon cheeseburger that early on!

Enjoy getting cozy and cuddling up!  2lbs a day....whew!  It all balances out but the losing fast in the beginning I found to be encouraging!

HUGS!

I went to Red Robin at about two weeks out and ordered a cup of their chili (I was still on mushies then too).  The poor kid asked if I didn't want anything else, and I just told him I had eaten earlier and was just out with the family.  I had about half of the cup, and I was happy with it.  I'm going to be a cheap date!

Lisa...did you see Pat?  Did she just yank it out or was she kind in being gentle?  One of Dr. Schweitzer's surgical fellows took mine out and I swear it felt like it was pulling my insides out with it!  Lost my breath for a bit too!  Honestly, that was the worst pain I experienced, so it should be all downhill from here!

Good for you Lisa!  Walking around the mall is a great idea in this weather.  Two pounds a day is awesome!  I give you a bunch of credit for eating out this early in the game.  I am still afraid to go out to eat.  Pam

Thats funny I went to the mall tonight too and my daughter cried on Santas lap. I was so upset. I really wanted a pic this year. Last yr she was only a few months old. I tried sitting next to him to get her to realize he was nice and not going to hurt her. But she just kept balling every time she looked at him. What is it about Santa that is so scary?haha
You sound like you are doing great! Keep up the good work and oh I hated the drain coming out. It felt like a snake was eating it's way out of my body. Ewww I squealed a few times each time she pulled. That was the worst part I think about the hospital.

Hi Lisa!
Glad that you are doing really well, and were able to go to the Mall with your daughter. I really don't blame her, some of the Mall Santa's still scare me and give me the creeps!  Anyway, I must be crazy because I don't remember any drains in me at all when I woke up in recovery, unless my Doc took them all out while I was still under. If it was as bad as you say, I'm glad that she took it out when she did! Well, you are doing fantastic with your weight loss, keep up the great job! Leslie:)

Boxer Heather - Pat took my drain out. She told me to take a deep breath and blow it out... I had the worst pain and she said "okay it's detached".  Little did I know she had to keep yanking on it to get it all the way out! Torture! LOL  I think the biggest thing was that I was not expecting to have pain in the chest. I was concentrating on my belly. Plus when she cut the stitch that holds it in place, it started coming out a little and I didn't feel a thing. I was thinking.. ah this should be easy. Boy was I wrong, whew.

The hardest part about eating out this early is breaking old "sub-conscious" habits. I can't tell you how many times I almost stole a french fry from my daughter lol. At least my husband was kind enough to get chili and turkey minis instead of something more tempting.

I don't know what's so scary about Santa. My daughter usually goes up to any stranger. In fact, she tries to get everyone's attention.  Last year she would get upset any time someone was wearing a Santa Hat. Not sure what the deal is! lol

Lisa, the removal of my drain was equally as awful and Pat removed mine as well. There is about a foot of tubing in there and no amount of taking a deep breath was going to make it any better for me LOL. It was so horrible that I had to lay down on the table for 20 minutes before I could get up and be able to stand. I tried twice and was SO dizzy from it I couldn't get up to stand! It could be that the tubing starts to adhere while it's healing in there. My drain was in for a week; I assume that since you also were sleeved and had Schweitzer that you had yours just as long. Congrats on your sleeve! I love mine!!!!
