Feeling Pretty Blah
Despite all of my complaining, I'm so happy I had this done and I'm ready for the real work to begin!
Hey Lisa!
Honey, none of this sounds out of the ordinary to me, and I think so many of us, if not all, can totally relate.
It sounds like you're doing everything just right. Your body needs a chance to heal and get over the trauma that's just been inflicted on it.
As long as you're doing your best to comply with your surgeon's criteria, then it's all good.
That drain IS a pain, there's nothing good to be said about it, and I can almost guarantee that you'll feel better once it's out.
Trust me, the first six weeks are the toughest, but you WILL get through them.
Hugs,
Tia
Oh Lisa - I'm so sorry you are feeling crappy. I did for the first seven days, and then I woke up and felt pretty good. Not great, by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty good. It's ok to complain...you just had major surgery!
I haven't felt hunger since the day before my surgery, so I guess that would be Nov. 9th, but I had a different surgery. All I can say is get in what you can. As for the bloating, try some gas ex strips - they worked wonders for me. And a lot of walking. I started walking pretty regularly about 3 days out and it really helped, but pacing around the house the first couple of days helped with the gas too.
I can't help with the drain - I didn't have one - but I could only sleep on my back for the first week or so and it stank, so I can totally comiserate.
It will get better. I promise. *hugs*

It all sounds pretty normal. Complaining is totally ok. Just hang in there.
I had the DS so our stomachs are the same, I can tell you I still never feel hungry, or at least not the hungry feeling I had before surgery. My hungry now is actually more of an empty feeling. You will learn to recognize it.
Good luck! Oh, and take a pain pill or some Tylenol about and hour before you go to have your drains removed. It was weird feeling but pain-free that way.
I couldn't even get my liquids in for the first 2 days and then barely anything for a week. Had to give up the prescription painkillers because they gave me waking nightmares. Tylenol 500 mg pills were my best friends.
Hope you feel better soon!!!
Like everyone else said, the way you're feeling is totally normal.
Just one suggestion. I too had problems with water. In fact, it was a few weeks before I could tolerate plain water. I drank a lot of decaf tea and Crystal Light in the beginning. It felt much better on my pouch. Warm or room temp drinks may be easier for you to handle as well.
Hang in there! :)
