OT- In home dog sitting? I am so frustrated right now!
So I've known for months that I am not "allowed" to take my dog to my families home for the holidays...reason why I didn't go for Thanksgiving.
I reserved space for my dog at the vet to board but I really hate the thought of this...not only that but I finally got the price per day with the holiday surcharges etc and now I am really stressed.
I was wondering if anyone knows a reliable reasonable sitter who does it in their home so I wouldn't have to have her in a cage?
I of course do not have any friends that would do this or that I would trust - IMAGINE that. My one friend can't afford to even meet me for lunch or starbucks so there is no way she'd spend her gas money to come do it for me -she'd look for $50 bucks day to help me out and at that I may as well just put her in the kennel. The other so called friend is afraid of animals (rolling my eyes).
I will only leave her with someone or at a place I can trust and if I can't find that, I may not even go or I'll just drive up for the day and have my usual pet sitter come.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Unfortunately I am not able to stay with any other family members either during my visit who would allow a dog either.
Thanks,
Nikki & Karma

Nikki I can only tell you where I send my guys to go but it's not cheap and I'm sure they are already booked over the holidays. and it's nowhere near you. Heck it's nowhere near me.., but we use Reisterstown Boarding Kennel. I can put two pups on one cottage... with outdoor runs or in the bunk house so it's still separate from other dogs... but much bigger than a crate...
I was planning on only going 12/23 to 12/27 Wed evening or Thursday am to Sunday. 4 days. My vet costs an arm and a leg and I'm so broke from surgery I can barely afford Christmas I am calling around to kennels up there now so Ican shorten the stay and still. So stressful - just had a huge argument with my Mom. I so would just as soon stay home like thanksgiving and not be stressed out from other people and things I can just put my foot down about!
My holidays are the worst ever and I pray for the day I have a family of my own so they are enjoyable - nothing worse than having a difficult family for a celebrating - everything is an ordeal...they won't even just allow me to see if two dogs get along.
SCREAMING AND FUMING over here!

She's a cute lil thing. A pit? Mind if I ask where you got her? Only because my husband used to work in that area and his boss bred/raised pits on the side. What are the odds yours could be one of his dogs? LOL
At any rate, I have a friend who does in house dog sitting and I believe the usual and customary charg IS around $50 a day so I doubt you will find anything cheaper. As far as boarding, many places are already booked, but be sure to call around. I think a 'single' dog is usually about $25 a day, sometimes more in an upscale kennel.
GOOD LUCK!

Sigh I found a place in PA near my families house in a really nice area - with private indoor outdoor runs in which they control when the doors open. They do go for walks and they said I could even visit her while she was there. I can bring her food and toys and bed. They are $22.00 bucks a day with no holiday surcharges or added weekend fees. The Christmas day fee at the vet for her to be in a cage was almost $50..FFFFF THAT!
I called a few other places in PA as well once is a Pet Resort that is very reasonable. I am crossing my fingers for them to call me back.

Nikki, She is a cutie pie. I wish I could help you but I do not board any of my dogs. Thank God we have our family to watch them. If I lived close I would gladly watch her for you. I love animals. My friends tell me I have a mini zoo at my house. I hope it works out for you. I hope you can have a good holiday. It is so sad to be miserable at a family function.
