Vitamin Deficiency
Sorry it's been so long since I've been on the board.
Well I just had to share and ask for a little advice. I went for my 2 year check up (2 months late) yesterday. Boy did I get a tongue lashing...and it was deserved. Not only did I gain 20 lbs since my lowest point, my labs showed that I am Vitamin D and B12 deficient. Now I know why I feel so rotten lately! She gave me a prescription for Vitamin D. I am to take it once a week. My question is how and when do I take it? I read that Vitamin D helps with the absorption of Calcium. So do I take it later in the day with my calcium? That's what I am assuming but I thought I would ask. Anyone else had this issue?
So I am back on protein drinks for breakfast. Using my journaling. Hitting the gym. And above all...no more grazing. I go back to see her in 6 months and I want at least 15 lbs off of me.

Hi Karen!!!!
I was in the same boat as you a few months ago!!! My Vit D was low when I had my 3 year check up (finally after not going) They gave me a script and I took it but would forget ALL the time. Finally I was so tired of feeling so sluggish and bad about myself i went and got all my vitamins I should be taking (Thanks to April, we went to Walmart and she told me what to get) So I am back on my B-12 and daily vitamin, calcium and Vitamin D, I also take Super B complex. I feel so much better and can tell if I miss my B-12. I take my Vit D with my last 2 calcuim pills, not that I do that for any reason it just happens to work that way :0)
Now to get back in to my gym routine and protein drinks then I will be set
You are taking babysteps and that is a good thing.

Hey Kelly - miss you girl. Yeah I feel horrible. I think being out of work for 7 months really threw off my routine. Now that I am working again I think things may turn around. How many calcium are you taking? I take 2 chewables, should I be taking more? I also have a prescription for iron too. I always forget the order...I'm taking the iron first with a multi and my B12. Then later I take biotin. And late afternoon I take my calcium and I suppose my Vitamin d. Am I missing anything? Do you think the Super B complex helps? Have you ever taken omega 3 fish oil?
Karen
I was told by my surgeon that RNY patients need a minimum of 1500-1800mg of Calcium CITRATE a day.
HTH~
Also YES for me personally the B Complex is a lifesaver. I ran out a month back and didnt take it for a week and felt ICK!! My surgeon suggested I take the B Complex because he explained since surgery we do not absorb B vitamins well at all :)

You should come out to group next Monday!!!! Are you still at Egg's? Glad you are working again, that can be stressfull and throw you off your routine. My Husband just got laid off and my stress is starting to creep up.
April I think said it all in a nut shell! She is my vitamin advisor.....LoL I have never taken Omega 3 , Did your surgeon suggest it?

From 6-7:30. You can come whenever you can get their! Hopefully he will find something. They called it a Furlough (sp?) and could possible re-hire him in February but who knows if the company will be doing well then! His company is in irrigration sales so winter is a slow time for them anyways but were staying positive and hopefully he will find something soon! He is going to school for IT and I wished he could find a good job in that NOW!!!! LoL but he has 3 years till that is finished
I'd really need to get back there. Still waiting to hear if I have a business trip next week. I am supposed to be in California for the week but nothing is confirmed yet. And...to top everything off, the lump that I have been complaining about for 2 years has been confirmed as a hernia. Luckily the pain had been gone for about 6 months. Doc says if the pain returns we will do something about it.
I can totally feel if I miss any of my Vits!!! So here is my regimen
Awake-Sub-lingual B12 (you can get a high potency B12 at Walmart for like $4!!)
Morning-Multivitamin/B Complex
Mid Morning-Calcium/Vit D
Afternoon-Multivitamin/Probiotics
Dinner-Calcium
Evening-Calcium
If you are low on calcium or Vit D you will SEVERELY feel it in your joints and bones!!

Thanks April. I always forget the order. And yes - I am feeling it in my joints. I have been waking up with cramps in my legs and feet. My hands and knees are really tight too. My surgeon also said I was very anemic. No wonder I am always tired. She said the B12 deficiency is worse than an iron deficiency (which I had 6 months ago). She said is can cause neurological damage. Yep, she got my attention.
