My rather tolerable protein concoction! If you hate protein shakes perhaps try this!

Ok so needing to really get on the protein bandwagon here and up my intake by at least 30 grams per day.  I should be getting no less than 90 grams and up to 120.  Don't ask the math was all done on paper at the surgeons office and Im like how in the EFF! am I going to get that in without supplements which I can't stand! 

Well thanks to the shared recipe for Pam's Protein Chai I have been a happy bandster since a very nice OH member made it and gave me some!  It's perfect for my drive to work and helps me get my band loose in the am when generally I can't get much down. 

However, I decided to give those darn nifty protein shots a whirl again after I almost gagged to death on one pre-surgery.  I wanted to be brave here.  So Wally World (aka Walmart) sells the Body Fortress ones for under 2 bucks a tube - one flavor - Fruit Punch.  Now while I'd love to down in out of the tube...can't do it. Today I decided to Dr. it up a bit  and added it a 16oz bottle of water and put in two packs of crystal light to really kill the the protein taste...IT WORKED.  I used a lemonade - wally brand and the SF HawaiianPunch Berry Lemonade flavor and I've got a mix of fruit punch and lemonade served over lots of ice.

110 calories
26 grams of VERY tolerable protein but very cold.

I am up to 85 grams of protein today not including dinner or my most likely afternoon protein bar snack!  YAY for me...   Just wanted to toot my own horn a little bit. 

And despite my sweet tooth over Thanksgiving - Turtle Cheesecake and Ginger Snaps (yes as bandster I am guilty of having no issues with any of this and it sliding down way too good and easy)  I still lost 2lbs.

I hope the rest of the week is as good to me as it has started off!

Nikki,

I am glad you are able to get in so much protein.  My issue is it seems to make me feel nauseous unless I take the protein in very little doses.  I have made several tasty shakes, it's just to yuk factor about 30 minutes after I fini**** - that kills me.   I am really beside myself for ways to get in all the protein each day.  Wednesday I am meeting with the nutritionist again.  Hope she has some suggestions.

I use a protein powder that has no taste; so much so I put it in plain water. now, it only has 5 gms per svg, so I am using it 2 yrs out from surgery, for just that last bit of protein I need. It's ProCel: http://www.globalhp.com/Procel.html

Pam - I'm only allowed to do 2 oz. of the protien shake at a time - this makes it easier to get them in I guess.  I do four 2 oz shots of protien per day - one before breakfast, one before lunch, one before dinner and one before bed.  Maybe you can break yours up like that?

The only problem I have with the bullets is that they are mostly Collegen protein which I've been told as a person with RNY I don't absorb very well....

Oh no nessa happens?  The runs? I looked on the packaging and it has 3 protein sources.. collagenic, whey and casein all isolate.. I don't know the friggin difference!

no nothing happens. it's just that we can't use the protein in the amounts they say you get. so you actually get very little protein.  I've  heard that we can't absorb the protein

I love chai!

and as an RNYer, I haven't had issues with my cheesecake or ginger snaps either, ippee. I can eat just a little but I can eat them.
