Hi there ;o) Your surgery will be here before you know it honey!! That is so very exciting!!!

I had my surgery on a Thursday and by Saturday I was getting around the house fine. I had to sleep in a recliner for almost 10 days because I could not lay in my own bed but I could get around okay. Again my surgery was on a Thursday I came home Friday and I opened my daycare Monday morning. My husband stayed here all that next week but I only needed him for lifting the babies for me. If I didnt have a daycare at home he could have went back to work. I was fine :o) My Doctor doesnt do drains though so I didnt have one of those at home. Thank God.

So you wont need someone to stay with you if you dont want that but you WILL NEED the EMOTIONAL SUPPORT............the first week home is called HELL WEEK because of the EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER you go through including "buyers remorse" and you need someone to remind you that you did it for your health. Friends can be good for that honey. ;o) Any support you can get will you get through the HELL WEEK. So I think a family member a loved one or just a great friend you can trust will be a GREAT IDEA!!! All the best of luck to you and if you get scared or you need ANYTHING you can email me at
[email protected] and I will help ;o) Good Luck sweetie. ((((Hugs)))) ~Jilly~

RNY on 10/06/08 with
I had surgery at 9am on a Monday, was released at 4pm Tuesday. I had someone stay with me for a few days because I needed help with my two year old but that was really all that I needed help with.

I was back to work in a week and 4 days.

These replies are amazing, you ladies really do care :)

Thank you for the kind words Jilly, I will be sure to keep your email on file. I am not one to reach out to people, but I might actually need help with this process.

I really appreciate hearing the perspective from people that actually went through this themselves.

On a side note, I have a terrible issue with taking pills, and thought the chewables would be expensive.  I just researched for the cheapest price of the dosage needed, and bought a 6 month supply of chewable Vitimins, Biotin and B12 all for $60.84 shipped to my house.  I am pretty excited it did not cost that much and some of them are even all natural too.  I still have to look into the Protien powders, but I think that will have to be done in a local store to buy the sample packets.

Welcome aboard IrishEyz!  You are definitely in good hands with Dr. Singh!  Although I wasn't an RNYer, I had the lapband laparascopically plus had a hiatial hernia fixed during surgery - I was pretty much good to go when I got home.  All I wanted to do was sleep for a few days - so I was very low maintenance, especially since I was not in much pain from the surgery.

Depending on your pain threshold - if you can take it - your hubby may be enough.  If you have a low pain tolerance - it'd be helpful to have an extra person around, and hey, have you had a chance to meet with your neighbors?  It could be as something simple as "can you help me get out of this chair?"  The initial moving around is difficult but once you get the momentum, the pain tends to disappate.  Especially the gas part.

The board is always here for you if you need to ask anything.  Congrats on your date coming up!
