Recovery time?
I am new here, I have posted once before.
To give a brief update, I finished my diet/paperwork/exams and was approved and scheduled for the gastric bypass surgery on Dec 18th.
My question -
The Dr's and Insurance company asked if I had someone to be with me after the surgery at home. However they did not go too much into detail, and I would like to hear your perspective on how long your recovery took and if you were able to do things yourself?
I am orig from NY and do not know anyone in the area, so I am trying to figure out if I should have a family member fly in, and if so, for how long? It is really necessary?
Thank you in advance.

I had my surgery Tuesday, was released Wednesday, and stayed at my mother's until Saturday. I wasn't not able to drive for a full week. It was nice having my mom with me because I was in a lot of pain that week, and it made me a little fuzzy and she was able to remind me to drink and take my meds. I probably could have stayed on my own, but I was glad I didn't have to.
As for recovery, it took me a full week before I actually felt better. By 7 days out, I was feeling pretty good, and now I'm two weeks out and I still have a little pull in my right side when I lay down, but otherwise, I feel great.

People tend to react differently. Personally, I needed someone to drive me home and I had a family member spend the night for the first 2 nights. After that, I was fine. I also did not need the pain meds. Therefore, I was able to drive as soon as I felt up to it.
It is best to have someone with you at first in case you are in a lot of pain and need more assistance. Unfortunately, you won't really know until it happens exactly how much you will want the support.
Wishing you all the best!

You should be fine, then. My husband went back to work on Monday (I was released Saturday). Do you have kids? That was the hardest part for me on Monday-Wednesday this week. Schools got out 3 hours early Monday and Tuesday and were closed Wednesday. I think it would have been much better if they were in school all day those days.
Sounds good about walking. I am at the top of Phelps Luck Drive on Luckpenny Pl. You?
