nagging questions

I know I have more questions then these but I'm never near a pad of paper when I think of them but here goes.

1. I drank an Unjury chocolate drink the other day and the taste was not bad but VERY sweet to me. Is there anything to make it not so sweet? Or, is there another product that is just as good but not as sweet.

2. What's so special about Wendy's chili? I see people talk about it alot but I have not run across any more info then its good.

All of your tips, love and support is so appreciated!! You guys are great.

Can't help you with the Unjury... the only thing I could suggest is adding more water??  As for the Chili.. all chili is your friend-- or at least my friend.  It's loaded with protein and low in fat.  Check out the nutrional facts for Wendy's.  When I'm in a pinch I stop there.

Hey sweetie...............I use Protein Whey Powder made by Body Fortress and sold at Wal*Mart. It doesnt taste as sweet and even comes in a plain flavor if you prefer ;o)

My surgeons office told me at my big meeting before surgery that Wendys Chili would be my FRIEND after surgery when I could eat it and I did many times just for the high protein. I tolerated it well but then a friend of mine told me they use TWO DAY OLD HAMBURGERS to make the chili and I almost barfed in my mouth!! (Her son works at Wendys) So since then I have been eating homemade chili ONLY!!!!!!!!! lol

You can add your questions as you remember them honey!!! :o)

Jilly - I enjoyed the Body Fortress prior to surgery too, but it is not on the Upper Chesapeake Bariatric center's "approved" protein shakes.  We are allowed only about 6 or 7 protien drinks.

Kelly - you may find that your taste buds change a lot after surgery.  I use the Unjury non-flavored powder now and add it to milk (my digestive problems were due to sugar alcohols) with my own flavorings now.

If you are looking for RTD shakes, try the Myoplex Lite - it's on our approved list.

Body Fortress is on my print out from University of Maryland Bariatric Program as one of the Highest Recommended which is why I got it. It worked AMAZING for me and I dropped almost 100 pounds in 5 months and I think that specific Whey had a lot to do with that. My husband used the same Whey powder and lost 139 in 13 months on his own (No surgery) with it. I think its amazing stuff. I still add it in my coffee every now and then like when I am at a stall lol. ;o) But it is very safe and highly recommended. I have it on my list as their # 3 pick and they even have on the sheet (Can find at Wal Mart or Target stores) so they do pu**** It is the only one I tolerated and is very CHEAP!!! ;o)

I have no doubt that its great and it works...that's the reason that I bought it prior to surgery.  However, Kelly and I both go to Upper Chesapeake and they are very specific in what they allow for protien drinks, and Body Fortress is not on their list.  I asked about it and was told not to deviate from the list.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm too early out to go maverick on my surgeon's requests, and I just think Kelly should be prepared for that when she has surgery in January.

Yeah if that is what her surgeon reccomends I agree she should follow their guidelines. My surgeons office highly reccomended it for me and all their other patients. Every practice is different with noticeable different results in their patients. One can only follow what they hear from their own surgeon. I will agree to that. ;o)

About the sweet taste of the Unjury chocolate drink... I had the same experience with Inspire Caramel Latte from Bariatric Eating.com.  It was way sweet.... but I am a "coffee person" so I just bought a jar of decaf coffee crystals and put a heaping spoonful in along with the protein powder and shook it up, and it tasted delicious..... just right.  Too bad I found out the hard way that although I've been a coffee drinker for 30 years, it's what's been causing me to have "gut" pain (NOT stomach....GUT) for about the past 10-12 years, and my doctors' been doing every test she knew of to find out what was causing it, from barium swallows, to barium enemas, to MRIs and CAT scans.... nothing ever showed up.  But when my surgeon told me "NO MORE COFFEE" when I began preparing for the surgery, I noticed about a month later that I had no more gut pain.  Then, about 5 months after the surgery, I snuck a cup of Starbucks one evening while I was out with a friend, and the next day, I was doubled over with pain again.  Well, I still didn't associate it with coffee drinking, but I didn't have any more coffee because I knew I wasn't supposed to (not because I equated it with the pain****il I decided to buy the decaf coffee crystals.  By then, I'd had some time to think about it, and was pretty sure that the caffeine in coffee was what was causing my gut pain, so that's why the decaf.... well, guess what?  A week of drinking the decaf, and I was doubled over again.  I must just have developed an allergy or sensitivity to coffee in general, 20 years after I started drinking it!!

As to the Wendy's Chili...... I'm not at all a beans or chili person, so I couldn't help you out with that.  I don't think I've ever tasted it....even though my ex-husband was a manager at Wendy's and I never heard him say anything bad about the product - and he was one of the most fastidious men I'd ever known.

I didn't even like the Taco Bell re-fried beans that they wanted us to eat.  I had to add beef broth to mine to make them edible.

Hugs,
Erica
