Hi everyone! Just trying to get comfortable on this losers bench!
Hi Everyone,
Today is the first day I could get myself to get on the computer. I have been trying to sip, walk and rest like my dear Angels suggested. I thought I was prepared for this surgery but , I have to tell you I did not have an easy first four - five days. I am not sure if it was because of the length of time my surgery took or my age but, my entire guts felt like they were going to pull out of my body every time I tried to get up or down. I moaned in pain just to sit on the toilet. I took my first shower and washed my hair yesterday and today I actually walked up some stairs. My goal for today is to try to drink the required protein shakes and walk around the house 10 minutes at least 6 times. My surgery took 5 hours which is much longer than I thought it would be, the hernia repair took extra time. I keep having a mild nausea which makes me not want to drink or eat anything. Since pain meds make me feel nausea sometimes, I am trying to stick to liquid Tylenol. I have not even attempted to take my vitamins but my goal today is to be positive and take one day at a time. I keep having these funny foamy feelings in the back of my throat. How long will that take to stop? Thanks for your support. Pam
Welcome to the Loser's Bench, Pam!! I was sorry to hear from your hubby that your surgery took longer than expected, but glad that your doctor found things while he was in there, as opposed to having to go back!!! YIKES!!
I don't know if you told me, but was your surgery open or lap? Of course, that can make a HUGE difference in the pain/recovery.
As far as the nausea, call your surgeon. They CAN give you something for the nausea. It's critical that you get in your fluids, you DON'T want to risk dehydration. S/f popsicles can be a Godsend right now.
Since your body's undergone some major trauma, you're right to try to take it one day at a time, but I personally think you should call your surgeon. They need to know what's going on and will be able to help you.
Hang in there and call me if you need me!
Hugs,
Tia
I am so sorry you are havign such a hard time recovering. But to tell you the truth that is the hernia repair that is so painful. But just take it easy it is definitely going to get better just going to take a little longer. I had hernia repair surgery done in June and man oh man did my tummy hurt. It hurt to get out of bed to get up from a sitting position and I was walking hunched over for a about a week.
As for the nausea I went through the same thing after having my wls and my doctor gave me anti nausea medicine that really helped me a lot. Do not hesitate to take your pain medicine just remember not to take it on an empty tummy. If you don't let your time lapse from taking your pain medicine you will feel a lot better.
I hope and pray that you start feeling better really soon.
Take care.
Cira

Pam - feel better. To be honest, I didn't feel really "good" until today - day 7.
And welcome to the Loser's Bench Girlfriend! I made sure to save you a seat next to mine!
And might I recommend, a heating pad across your belly. Heaven.
