Any suggestions on tasty protein drinks that I can have post RNY surgery? I know we're suppose to get in at least 50mg a day (women) and I want to know which ones you found tasty???

Muscle Milk Light (chocolate) is the only one I find tasty enough to drink (then and now).

It is really hard to advise you on this, simply because everyone's tastes are different. In addition, as with many RNY patients, you may find that things you liked before surgery will not be so appealing afterward. Your taste buds will change. All I can say is to experiment and be aware of what is out there. But do not stock up on too much ahead of time.

Some folks like the protein powders. There are EAS, Designer Whey, Syntrax Nectars, Unjury and many others. There are some that are whey based, soy based, or egg based. Pre-made liquid include EAS, Pure Protein, Slim Fast (low carb), Muscle Milk, and many others. You can get them flavored or unflavored.

You can find many of these on-line as well as WalMart. I also like to go to The Vitamin Shoppe because they have many items that you can experiment with in single servings. Their selection is also one of the best in-store that I have found. If you search on line for Bariatric Products, Foods, etc., you will find many companies that provide these products. Some offer sampler packs. Again, I would not over-do until you see what your tastes are like afterward.

You will find what works for you. Personally, I am very tolerant and like most powders and some pre-made liquids. My favorite is a chocolate mint protein shake that I make with a base of Hood Calorie Countdown Chocolate Milk (the lowest carb/calorie chocolate milk I have found). Then I add protein powder, Equal, mint extract, and lots of ice. I make mine so thick I have to eat it with a spoon, which I find satisfying. Sometimes, I will add some banana or frozen strawberries. Greek yogurt is also a healthy additive.

Happy experimenting!

Debbie

Make sure you calculate your protein intake in grams (g) and not miligrams (mg).  There is huge difference!  There is a plentiful array of protein drinks to choose from, but most people seem to have a select few that they personally like.  I have tried ones that others said were delicious and found them to be quite the opposite.  It's a bit of a trial and error process, but you will surely find one suits you.

My personal pick is also Muscle Milk Light.
The road goes ever on.

Thanks Andy, do you use the Muscle Milk powders or the pre-mixed liquid drinks? I hear some say stay away from the premixes as they may often contain sugars our pouch can't handle?

My doctor gave me a list of "approved" protien drinks and I'm not to stray from the list.  I'm using the EAS light ones and they aren't too bad.  I like the chocolate ones.

Bernice, do you use the powder or premix?

I use the pre-mix only because it seems I have an issue with milk now.  The premix is easier on my tummy.  Once I move to mushies, I'll put some add-ins in with it, but for now, since I'm only allowed two ounces at a time, it's hardly worth it.  ;-)

Bernice.. are you using Myoplex?  If not.. that may be what's bothering you.. not the milk.  I accidentally used the wrong one once and puked it.

It's the Myoplex.  I matched specifically with what's on my surgeon's list (he only lists about 6 and two are specifically mail order).  It's definitely the milk.  There's no puking involved...it's the other end.  I've tried three shakes made with milk and they've all gone the same way - I am much better using the RTD, and my surgeon is cool with that.
