Nicole so sorry you are feeling blue. I think we have all been there. I try to stay busy and my doc checked my vitamin D level and it was 13. She said that was really low and can contribute to depression along with other issues. I have been taking D and have not been really down yet. I have called it the monster for years. I am hoping the monster will stay away. I hate feeling sad and blue. I did talk to my acupuncturist and she said she treats many women with depression so they can stay off meds. I told her if meds are needed and it helps so be it. I hope you find relief and start feeling better soon.

julie,

thanks! i actually am on an antidepressant and it works for like two weeks and then that is it. kinda sucks. I also do acupuncture but i rarely feel better afterwards. not sure why, but i still go. i like my acupuncturist. I am going to do the lamp thing and get my levels checked and hopefully that will all help.

Nicole I hope things will get better soon. I do acupuncture every week and at times I don't notice a difference but when I have my pulses checked she says they are looking much better than before. Take care and keep your head up. Things will get better..

I get the winter blues in a bad way. I find it helps to turn on like all the lights in the house when I get home in the evening, and then try to do something fun for a bit.  Turn on the tunes, dance, etc.

OMG, my name should be Nikki “Seasonal Affective Disorder." It gets that bad. It’s not so much the winter itself as the shift. My energy changes, I get a bit depressed (although I tend to perk up around Christmastime) and just a feeling of general “uckiness."

For me exercise has helped manage that. When I was bigger I thought it was BS that exercise produces feel-good hormones but it is true. When I stop exercising I get that same feeling of discontent. So I tend to do longer workouts in the winter (I figure more movement=more endorphins…I hope…). I also try to get out in the sun when I can (even if it is not warm) and walk.

One thing I have noted is that days seem to last FOREVER! I mean I get off work at 5:30 and generally go to bed around midnight. That is the same 6.5 hours I was living before but now it seems like 13 hours!

I hear ya, Nic.  Especially right now: only 4:40, already close to dark.  Dreary, rainy day.  "Oh bother!"
Hang in there!
