With surgery in just a few days, I can't stop finding things to do around the house.  Not to mention the cooking and freezing of ice cube size portions of foods I will need after surgery.  I am so afraid that I will come home and be in a complete panic about what and when I should eat.  I also have the urge to write out daily food menu's for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery.  I think it will help me have peace of mind.  Is this normal?  I am not sure what I am afraid of but I just keep trying to think of things that I should do, or have on hand, before I go into surgery.

Awww, honey, it's perfectly normal!!  Your surgeon's office will give you guidelines on things to eat, not to eat, how much to eat and how much to drink.  Your only job will be to follow the guidelines and walk, sip and rest.  Seriously.  It's that easy.  Well, not really, but honestly, it won't take you long at all to get into a groove.

If, of course, you find yourself freaking out, come here, call the doctor's office, etc., but don't panic.

If it makes you feel better to write things down - including the way you're feeling right now and after surgery, by all means, do it.  I kept a journal until I was onto solid foods, and it does help.  It'll help, too, when you go for a follow-up and they want to see your intake.

As far as supplies for the hospital, there's really very little - some lip balm, comfy clothes and a pillow for the ride home.  Once you get home, you should buy a little bit, based on what your surgeon tells you to be eating/drinking for the first few weeks.  But don't buy a lot - your taste and sense of smell can change.

Just take a deep breath and get ready for your turn at bat!!!  It's gonna be great!!!

Hugs,

Tia

Pam,

As Tia said...all perfectly normal.  It takes some time to get used to but you will.  I kept a food journal for more than 6-months after surgery and it does help.  Of course many times you'll find that you have no desire to eat...novel concept, huh?

Nervous energy...put it to good use!

Totally normal...just breathe! Tia pretty much covered everything LOL so I won't repeat. Before you know it you'll be done and home recovering. Do whatever you need to do beforehand to feel you have peace of mind. You'll do great! Take care.

Thanks everyone!  In my heart I knew it was the pre-op gitters but I needed my friends to confirm it.   My skinny world family is being supportive, but it is not the same as the support I get from my friends here.   Flowers of love for all of you!  Pam
