How did you decide which surgery?

I was originally looking at Lapband, but my Endo suggested that if I was going to get WLS I "go all the way". I am diabetic, so the malabsorbtion works in my favor. I then thought DS, it was then pointed out my BMI wasn't high enough. So RNY was it. So far very pleased. Do a lot of research.

Like you I was originally going to do Lapband, as I feared the RNY, but my fear was based on my own ignorance about the surgery.  I had my surgery date scheduled for Lapband (which was this Monday Nov 9th) and I did all the testing needed for Lapband..Then I came down with a cold and postponed my surgery. Thanks god for the cold, because I had more time to sit and do some soul searching and fact checking. It was all of these guys here on Obesityhelp that help me make my decision. I asked a lot of questions, I did a lot of surfing between the RNY message boards and the Lapband message boards. I just finally came to terms with the fact that if I'm going to be cut open I'm going to just DO IT! Do it right the first time, as I hear a lot of bandsters wish they would've gone the RNY route. I just didn't want to have any regrets, while I lived with that band and port inside my body for the rest of my life. Being a slave to office "fills" and knowing I might not get optimal weight loss. Don't get me wrong the band works for a lot of people....but the band does have a LOT OF RULES. Just keeping asking questions and I'm sure the veterans on Obesityhelp will help you at least come to some final conclusion...well I know they did for me. Good luck on making your decision and I'm sure whatever that is it will be the right one for you :)

Consider all four major WLS options ~ band, sleeve, RNY, and DS. Don't pick a doc that doesn't do all of them.
