Officially changed my mind

I have officially changed my mind about having the band. I saw Dr Averbach today , as I was scheduled for my Lapband surgery on Monday Nov 9th and I've now done my soul searching and fact checking and I'll be having the RNY surgery on Nov 30th. I really feel confident in my choice now and I have tons of questions about RNY to ask you guys. I just have to sit and think about them and I'll be back to ask :) . I just had to share my news.

WOW what a big switch for you and so close to surgery.

Congrats on making a choice and being comfortable with it.  I'm 6.5 weeks out so let me know what I can do to help.

I know Dr. A has a very different POST-Surgery WLS from DVR so I'm not going to be much help there but I know that TOM  (Crash220) and Angie (amusedone) both recently had RNY with Dr. A and both are very open to questions and helping!

What are the differences between Dr. A and DVR post-surgery.

I can only speak of DVR's.  I Know that Dr. A has you on pureed almost as soon as you are home and you stay two nights...

we stay one night
we go home with the JP drain
we go home on CLEAR liquids
affer 48 hours we progress to full liquids
10 days of full liquids progresses us to 2 weeks of pureed food then 2 weeks of soft food (so we are looking at 6 weeks out still on soft food)...
we can't have tomato products for 2 months...

not sure what other differences there are... caffiene, alcohol, straws, carbonation... I think all those are different...

If it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing.  I was scheduled for RNY in December 2008, chickened out and canceled the surgery completely.  Thereafter, I contemplated lap band and changed my mind back to RNY.  I finally did it -- in May 2008.  I'm happy with my decision.  Good luck to you.

Dr. Averbach didn't place me on a liquid diet prior to surgery.Hmm... I thought everyone is placed on a liquid diet prior to RNY surgery??????
