Question - How long should my DH plan to take off work?
My surgery is at Bayview on 1/19, which is a Tuesday. If I recall correctly (it's been so long since I started this process, and I've gotten so much info shoved into my brain!), they will most likely keep me for one night if there are no complications, so I guess I will be released on Wednesday? For those of you who are post-op, at what point did you feel comfortable being home on your own? I do have a flight of stairs to contend with in my townhome - kitchen and the recliner I plan to spend a lot of time in are on the main floor, bed and bathroom are upstairs.
You're generally released to drive at your 1 week post-op follow-up, right?
Thanks for your input. My DH has the PTO to take off, but I don't want him to blow through more than he needs to, you know?
Oh, also for those of you who had surgery at Bayview, are they okay with spouses spending the night? Do they have cots or a recliner or something?

I was in the hospital for 2 nights, but you're surgeon may do things differently. My husband took off of work for a week and that was more than enough time. I probably only really needed his help for the first 3 days or so. I was told that I could drive when I was no longer taking the narcotic pain meds.
I had my surgery at Bayview 3 years ago. My Hubby worked while I was in the hospital (went in on Monday and came home Thursday, I was cut open w/ Dr Magnuson) My mom was supposed to stay with me but I did not get a single room!!!! I would call them and see if you can put your name on the list, It does not guarantee you, but your name is on their.
I think the decision is really based on the level of support you want from your DH. I seriously doubt you will need any actual assistance. They will have you up and walking in the hospital within hours of your surgery. It's then really important to keep walking everyday thereafter. I left the hospital two days after surgery and never needed so much as a Tylenol. My husband took no time off from work and honestly.. I was glad. I took the time to read, sleep, walk and journal. I enjoyed the quiet time at home. But not everyone is like me.. and you may want the company. :)
