Can anyone recommend a therapist?

I'm thinking that I've got to get my head right, since they only operated on my stomach.  Soooo....anybody have a great therapist to recommend?  I'm in Columbia, but willing to travel if necessary. 

I'm looking for someone who specializes in weight issues.

Hello, I have heard about a woman and I think she must be in Balt. Her name is Ranessa and I hope I spelled her name right. I think many gals here have used her and like her. I have heard there is another woman in balt. but I am unsure of her name. I will do some research and let you know when I find out her name. There is also a man named Andrew Wallen I  hope this is right. He came to several meetings in Crofton and spoke. I will try to get you the info and get back to you. I am sure that some of the girls here will chime in and give you names and more info  than I can but I tried. Good Luck.

Julie is right.  Ranesa McNally out of Baltimore is awesome.   She is on Dr. David von Rueden's team but she has a private practice in Sudbrook Md I believe.   Several of the ladies here use her on a regular basis.

Dr. Kathryn Neel is right in Columbia near the hospital.  I don't know that she really specializes in weight issues, but helped me through my weight issues.  I really liked her... she was easy to talk to.

YES YES YES!  Andrew Walen!  I've seen him since March, and I seriously can't tell you how much he's helped me!  He specializes not only in weight issues, but specifically in WLS.  He has an office in Ellicott City on 108, right by the shopping center where the Michael's and the Barnes and Noble, Kohls, etc are.

I've had some experience with Renessa since she joined Dr. von Rueden's staff and she is so very knowledgable about the surgery and that is a huge plus.  I have also attended a support group where Andrew Whalen was the guest speaker and he was awesome.  The only problem I had with him at the time was that he was not yet credentialed to take insurance and I was not going to pay out of pocket for psych counseling.  Check with your insurance company and then try to narrow it down.  I have learned that trying to schedule appts with someone too far from your home will lessen the liklihood that you will keep the appts as you move forward.  There is an office called Psychiatrics Associations of Maryland in Columbia and they specialized in eating disorders.  You may want to consider them as well.
