Plantar Hyperhidrosis & WLS

Happy Tuesday Morning to all of the Beautiful People here on the Maryland Oh, I miss you guys but i've had to cut back during the work day with my addiction to OH.

I miss you guys and am currently holding steady with my weight loss but am somewhat satisfied with my progress thus far.

Aside from the obvious health reasons to get control of my weight,  i also assumed that losing the weight would help with my Plantar Hyperhidrosis.  I suffered with this problem for 12 years now and it is a major drawback in my life at times; well to be honest with you, almost all of the time.  During my research, I read that Obesity does not help the problem and i was became excited at the prospect that WLS could help me.  Well, No, it has not. I remain unable to do the things that most people take for granted like going out to Resturants, going dancing or just taking a stroll thru the Malls. Basically, i'm still trying to hide behind a smile and trying to go on with this dreadful affliction and live life as best i can.  Losing weight and wearing smaller sizes  has just been so encouraging but ah man what i wouldn't give to be free of this Curse.

I just want anyone out there that might be suffering with Hyperhidrosis to know that people that don't have it may not know what we go thru day to day, but Life goes On and we must make the best of everyday God grants us. I'm just happy to be here! I luv u guys, have a Great Day!

Hi Venita

I just read up about this condition and I am sorry to hear that you suffer from it. I am sure you've done all of this but has your doctor looked at your diet? I am just wondering since i read someplace that certainf oods can make it worse.

Have you tried talcum? I am just throwing that out because when I lived in India, the summers were so hot (110 sometimes) and talcum powder was our salvation against sweating rivers!

Just trying to see hat could be out there, though I am sure you've read up and tried almost everything you could have. *hugs*

Thanks so much Sylvie, and yes, i have. i have been on everything and visited every Podiatrist to find a solution in NYC and only got a diagnosis once i moved to Baltimore from a Dermatologist. I'm currently using Formalyze 10% solution on the soles of my feet and that is the strongest topical solution. The problem is eventually you become immune to Topicals and that is what has happened in my case. There is a machine called Iontophreses but my insurance does not cover that machine nor do they cover Botox shots which are painful and too too costly to pay out of pocket.  In regards to the weather, it does not matter whether hot or cold - we still sweat. It's a very ugly nasty situation. I believe that it came from taking DepoProvera BC shots, which is a side effect. But regardless from where it came, I just wish i could get rid of it. It's the worst thing that has ever come into my life.

It has to be bitter sweet...on one hand your losing and excited to lose and on another you cant contol this issue. There are no meds to control it better honey? Is there a support group for this condition? I hope you find some resolve soon, I truly do. Let me know if you need anything and hang in there.

Hi Venita -

We've missed you, too!!!  I'm really sorry to hear that you're suffering with this.  I'm familiar with hyperhidrosis, and just put 2 and 2 together with the plantar.  I'm sorry you've been unable to get relief, even with the amazing amount of weight you've lost.  It's very frustrating when doctors and written information blame EVERYTHING on obesity.  I mean, we know all that, but you know what, most of us didn't become obese overnight!

I assume you've looked into homeopathic remedies?  The reason I ask is because I know that the Baltimore Sun has a column periodically called "The People's Pharmacy," and there are some great tips in there for tried and true homeopathic remedies.  I'll see what I can find for you.

Hang in there, sweetie.  We're here for you - whether to laugh, cry, scream or shout!

Hugs,

Tia

So sorry you are still experiencing this problem, perhaps it will take some more time to find relief as you aren't that far out from surgery.  Also, I read online (Google is my friend) that there is a surgical procedure that can help.  Is that something that insurance will cover, if a doc declares it medically necessary?

Hang in there!
