Monday had my 1st Fill - Really busy!
Well I haven't been lurking too much because I've been swamped at work and at night I'm just plain tired.
I went for my first fill on Monday. I lost 4lbs since my visit 2 weeks before and there total for me is 33 pounds in just about 8 weeks while mine on my scale is always 5lbs less - so at home 38 pounds.
My fill experienced was more difficult than I expected. It took awhile. The 2 inch needle could BARELY access my port (because of none other than the fat around it) so he was kind of digging around in there and it hurt like heck. He finally got it and put 3ccs in and then the test. Drank some water - NO GO! Immediately my chest got tight and stayed there for longer than a few seconds...I was too tight.
So back in to remove some...again a process with the 2in needle because he didnt want to stick me again. I got poked and prodded for a few mins and he got some out. Then I drank some water...all was good. Then onto the barium for the fluoro..yuck! Everything was moving smoothly and I drank more water...no chest tighness so I was free to go. I got back in another 2-3 weeks for fill #2
I've been on liquids since after lunch on Monday...my favorite thing! Tomorrow mushies. Wendy's chili here I come. I've had an appetite but it has taken much to calm it down. I couldn't even finish the Tomato Soup At Hand last night.
I'm happy with my progress and very close to my first goal which was to lose 30lbs 3 months post op from surgery and I'm 5-10lbs away (my scale, then dr's scale) and it's not even been six weeks. So I am hopefully to get to that goal and exceed it. I have had alot of will power with food and alot of my own doing to help the scale to move. I just need to start working out as I have had NO energy for this
Well that's my update for now! Check in soon!

Wow girl congrats on the weight loss you are doing fantastic. I am so happy for you. I am sorry about the poking and prodding. I hate needles so when I heard about accessing the port can be difficult at times I knew I could not do the lapband. I am a big chicken.
You are one tough lady and I take off my hat to you.
Keep us posted on your progress.
Take care,
Cira

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Nikki - congrats on your progress!
Yeah, the first fill or two fills will be difficult but as we lose the weight, the ports get easier to find. So it gets better from that point on! SMILES!
I will say that I've noticed when I have to go back on liquids for 2 days after the fills, my energy level is shot - and now, I just know to plan to take the days off after a fill just to be on the safe side, or do the fills on Fridays, because I go from eating healthy foods that give me energy to slurping something that has nutrional value that slides through too quickly because of it's liquid state.
I'm fortunate in that when I get my fill, it's been a certain amount, either 1 CC or nowadays it's .5 ccs; I don't have to do any testing, I just leave with instructions to call back if I have any problems, or just come back in 3 months for a follow up.
Overall, how's the band life treating ya so far?
