SURGERY CANCELLED
hey lisa,
my dr got the results for my preop bloodwork literally the night before my mandatory endoscopy, and i almost had my surgery cancelled because of a lapse by my pcp, so your dr. not looking at it till last minute might not have been his fault. however i agree with others who say that your dr is awesome for looking at the whole person and not just "his part"
i dont know what kind of insurance you have, but i have bcbs bluechoice, and they told my that i had 90 days from approval to have the surgery, so maybe your ins is the same way. the doc just needs to request a date change. just make sure your kidneys are strong enough!
i hope all goes well, and i hope you can get your surgery as soon as possible.
good luck
brian

Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear that news! My mom was recently in pre-op with her IV in and they told her that her potassium was too low and she could have cardiac arrest if they put her to sleep so they sent her home to get her levels up! Her PCP saw her the week before and knew they were on the low side of normal and did nothing! I was SOOO angry. Hopefully it is something very simple like your pre-op diet or dehydration. Is anything else out of whack or is that all they told you. I am very thankful I work in the hospital were I'm having my surgery so I look at my labs before my doc even sees them. Best of luck and hugs to you as you get through this!!!

Ok, take this from someone who had a scare. My endo had me scheduled for labs, My Bilirubin was elevated, he sent a message to Dr Averbach. Dr A said it was possible that disturbing my liver during surgery could raise the Bili, but it should have settled by the time the labs were taken, ~ 4 weeks. The elevated Bili could mean I got hepatitis from the hospital. Thank GOD a followup set of labs proved negative, for Hepatitis, and Bili calmed down but the scare was real.
Presurgery labs were normal, so whatever happened was surgery, - hospital related.
I think although you are disappointed on the surgery postponement, you should in reality be relieved Dr S is looking out for your health. Livers are kind of important.
My prayers go out to you, hopefully everything will be normal and you can get your surgery soon.
