Hey everyone-

As my surgery is now less than two weeks away () I am trying to figure out what brand of stuff to get for my post op vitamins, etc.

I need to be very very cost conscious so I figured you guys were the best to go to for this.

1. multivitamins-I have a bottle of Centrum chewables, the doc says after surgery to get Centrum Silver chewables even though I'm only 24.

2. Calcium-I'm thinking of going with the Bariatric Advantage ones. Pros/Cons or other suggestions?

3. B12-again just going to go with bariatric advantage or possibly vitamin shoppe (there's one near my apartment)-any brand ideas if I go with vitamin shoppe?

4. Iron-I need 30mg per day. The bariatric advantage one is 60mg so I guess I would break it in half? any other suggestions? I don't really want to deal with breaking up regular pills like the Vitron C.

5. Protein Powder-Vitamin Shoppe suggested Jay Robb. I also use the NSA Carnation Instant Breakfast and like that alot. Any suggestion for protein waters? Also do you find it better to buy the premade stuff like protein water or just buy the powder and mix it yourself?

Thanks,

Jess

Hey Jess,
Congrats on getting close to your date!!  The next 2 weeks will fly!

I don't know much about the vitamins...  I went with Bariatric Fusion right after surgery so I did not have to figure it out.  I admit to being lazy...  I am going through the same thing right now in trying to decide what to go with in pill format and considering just ordering more of the Bariatic Fusion because it is so confusing on what is right vs. wrong.

Protein power - have you tasted the Jay Robb?  We all have totally different tastes, but that is one I hated (and I tried it for the first time yesterday...) they do however sell small packs of it to taste (I got them at Owings Mills Mall's GNC)  From Vitamin Shoppe - I like their own branded protein pudding... I make it with 12oz of liquid (Usually 6 milk, 6 water) instead of the 5-6 it calls for and do it like a shake...

Protein power/water is a game you have to play for yourself... what one of us loves the rest hate, and vice versa... Good luck finding what works for you!  My favorites are the unjury vanilla (online only) and then the pudding  mixes from Vit Shoppe, but I have also liked and not hated some of the Nectars - but not enough to buy a whole tub just sample packs!

I have not tried any of the protein waters...

Good luck in your journey, keep us posted!

Hi Jess,

Honestly, brand name is unimportant, as long as the vits contain everything recommended by your surgeon and nutritionist.  Personally I use either the Centrum Chewables of the CVS brand chewables, depending upon which costs less on the day that I'm buying them.  I use CVS brand Calcium Citrate with Vit D, Nature's Bounty B-12 subinguals, and CVS brand iron,

As far as protein powder, Angie is right, everyone has different tastes.  AND everyone's taste may or may not change after surgery.  In preparation for this, I ordered a bunch of one serving samples from vitalady.com to try.  There were some I hated and some that were great.  Now I use either Designer Whey or Body Fortress, both of which I can buy at Walmart for pretty good prices.

Hope that helps,
Heather

I go with the cheapest except for my protein supplement. I use LiquaCel made my globalHealth products, globalhp.com, If you order more than a couple bottles, I thnk shipping is free. It has 16 gms protein in each oz serving.

For the rest of the stuff, I have a spreadsheet of the cheapest ones. So far I've found:

Costco has the cheapest calcium citrate and mutlivitamins
Puritan.com is the cheapest for the iron
Prilosec from purpleoutlet.com

I just bought some Vitafusion gummies, calcium, multi, vitamin D, and B12. I'm not sure if they are the best, but they taste good :)
