I'd like to start trying some bars but don't really now which to try.  In the past I had eaten balance bars which I find to be a little higher in fat and calories than I'd like them to be and really for the calories not so tasty.  I'e also tried Cliff but again same thing.

Anyone out there have any favorite bars, particularly high in protein of course and lower in fat/calories.  I hate nothing more than eating a protein bar thats 200+ calories and so many fat grams...I feel like regardless of protein I'd rather be eating a candy bar.

Just looking for something that I can keep handy for on the go, avoid other temptations and/or get some extra grams of protein.

Lord knows I have spent too much on shakes that I barely drink so I'm hoping to try a bar at a time see which ones I like, if any...crossing my fingers here!

Try South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bars.  Peanut butter, Apple Cinnamon and Peanut Butter Chocolate are really good!  Having one right now.  10 gs of protein and very low in carbs and calories.

Adkins has some very good ones.  One in fact that is like eating a rice krispies treat with choc drizzled on top.  One of my favorite is the apple crisp one too by Adkins.  Also muscle milk has a good one.

I've found all of these to be the best bang for the buck protein wise.

Hi Nikki,

I used to Love the South Beach bars, but they are full of sugar alcohols which are bad for me.  I get severe cramps  and the "D" word.  Once I figured out what was going on, I stopped eating them, and the symptoms went away.  To be certain they were the cause, I ate one again. Same thing.  I'm kind of jealous of my husband, because he can and does still eat them.

But...I did find another brand I like.  The Zone Perfect bars are really good.  Lots of protein and fiber, minimum sugars and carbs compared to some.  They range between 180 and 210 calories per bar.  Watch some of the higher cal bars though as they can contain as much as 12g of fat.  I particularly like the blueberry and the dark chocolate almond. As much traveling as I do, I always keep a couple in my purse.

If you can tolerate Sugar alchols I love Doctor's Carbrite diet bars.  190 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 21 grams of protein.  23 grams of carbs but 20 of them are from sugar alchols.  I got them on the internet somewhere (I am in the office and a space) but they come in all kinds of yummy flavors - chocolate mint and brownie or my two favorites.
