Dang, I failed my sleep study!
I am so sad! I thought for sure I would be fine but the "hypopneas" threw me into the moderate range and now they want me to go back for a second study for a CPAP! I called the doctor to see if I refused to wear it would I not be able to have the surgery and they said no but for legal reasons I have to do the test over again. I so hate the thought of having to "sleep" there again. I was nearly comatose the next day because I had trouble sleeping in their bed and it gives me the creeps that someone is watching me sleep. Now I have to add that blasted mask to my trouble!!!
Sorry for the ramble, just needed to whine!

I went through the same ordeal. I'm supposed to wear a CPAP, but I haven't gotten one yet. I know I know.. everyone has yelled at me already. I just can't sleep with something strapped to my face. I'm going to get another study done once I lose weight. I'm hoping it will go away. Both of my parents wear CPAP masks and I don't know how they do it. They claim they sleep so much better now. I'm just a light sleeper and I can't imagine sleeping like that. I don't get enough sleep as it is and I have a 2 year old to take care of, plus I work at night.
Anywho, you are not alone. The test was TORTURE!

It sure does stink! I think us Mommys should have a special test because I sleep so lightly anyway, the least little noise will wake me because my youngest sleep walks. I can't afford not to hear her if she gets up at night. I am a nurse I know it is important and if I had a lot of apnea episodes I might be more inclined but just because my breathing "slows" does not make me want to wear that machine. I have had mulitple major surgeries over the last 4 years and there has never been any issues with breathing (or lack thereof). So off I go Friday night to be tortured! Thanks for being there.
Use your CPAP. I didn't for a year and it led to complications. When you stop breathing at night(which happens w/sleep apnea)your brain tells body to make more blood for more oxygen. I developed the thick blood disease (polythemia). I had to go to hospital every week to have blood check if it was high they took a pint of blood out of me.
It started I wasn't feeling well so I went to doctors he couldn't find anything until he sent me for blood tests. It was scary when the lab call my doctor immediately and he told me to go straight to ER after they saw the results of my blood test came back. I stayed in hospital for 4 days. The nurse told me I could have had a stroke. I was lucky I went to doctors when I did. Also having that thick blood can damage your organs. It did some damage to my lungs.
Since I been back on CPAP regularly I haven't had any problems. My hemologist has released me to regular doctor and only see him once a year.
SO EVERYONE PLEASE USE YOUR CPAP.

The sleep studies are the worst part. You are able to get used to the CPAP and you'll feel better for having worn it. I'm a light sleeper too and thought there'd be no way I'd get used to it but I did. Chances are they will make you wear it in the hospital since the diagnosis requiring it will be a part of your record. Also, if you are not already approved, this will help with approval.

Hey Kelly - sorry to hear you failed...I did too, and I was in tears when I found out I had to go through my 2nd study. I was so miserable. I was happy to find out that I could take the 2nd test on a Friday night.
I've had a heck of a time with the CPAP. I try to get it on at least 2 to 3 hours a night - I'm a stomach sleeper, and my mask doesn't allow for it. My husband said he's NEVER heard me stop breathing unless I'm on my back. I am working up to wearing it longer, and will take the machine with me to the hospital when I have my surgery.
Sorry you have to go through it again...good luck.

In a way I got lucky - my sleep apnea was so bad it was apparent from the beginning of the study and 2 hours in they woke me and tested the machine for about an hour, changed settings twice and I left the study knowing I needed a CPAP. I wore it after having complications due to oxygen in the hospital religiously until I was off pain meds.
If you don't know my story about complications in the hospital and why you NEED to have it, let me know. I almost died because no one put me on the CPAP in the hospital and recovery room.
I admit, I quit wearing mine after I came home and ended the pain meds. I need to get another sleep study done before I return the CPAP, but I am so not looking forward to doing it!
