I don't know you nor your history on the board, but I really don't see any bashing going on here, I see open discussion between a few people.  I believe I have a right to question the thought behind posting a high carb, sweet filled recipe on a WLS board.  The others have a right to express their opinion on why it was posted.  We debated our thoughts and why we think the way we do, period.

If I wanted to bash, I would say something ignorant like "would you post a martini recipe on an AA recovery board?  No, then why are you posting that crap here."  But I did not because I do not feel that way.  My opinion was that maybe the recipe does not belong here, OR if someone chooses to post it, maybe just make a comment about not being for newbies, or how it might not be the best choice early out or until goal, etc.

Nowhere do I feel I posted any 'bashing' that would make anyone feel the need to leave.

I'm going to take my own advice and leave well enough alone now.  It's obvious things are not being interpreted as intended and to continue to debate will only fuel a fire.

All this apple talk is making me want an apple!! I just realized this is one of the things I have NOT tried since surgery - I do get the apple crisp in the Healthy choice meals but it LOOKS so bad I don't want to try it!

I am book marking this recipe as something to make for Lee when I get the urge to make dessert!  We won't tell him I reduced the bad and made it half way good... :)  Wondering if I can mix protein powder into bird's custard to make it almost good for me!

Hmm... Bird's custard is a British thing...

http://www.amazon.com/Birds-Custard-Powder-300g/dp/B000JMBE7C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1255466253&sr=8-2

It is NOT the best thing for us... nor the worst... it has no protein - but is made with milk...  I don't add extra sugar or anything to it.... but it has it's own.

Brits eat it on EVERYTHING that constitutes a dessert it seems.  This was one of the things that made my husband mutter "Damn Americans" over and over after he moved to the USA... *Grins*  It is a staple in my house... MM from the main boards uses it alot in her protein recipes, but I have not tried it anything but for Lee...  (nor have I eaten it since surgery...

I had to go into my cabinet and pull out the Altern (walmart brand of splenda) and pull up the nutritional value of the splenda brown sugar.

Looking at the Altern:
Serving size:  1tsp
Calories:  0
Total fat: 0
Sodium: 0
Potassium: 0
Total Carb:  less then 1g
Protein: 0

The splenda brown sugar:
Serving 1/2 tsp
Calories: 10
Calories from fat: 0
Total Carb: 2g.

So tell me, where does it say that the carbs are high??? I will make sure the next time I post a recipe that it says "newbies check with your NUT before trying to eat something that may not agree with you"....If the newbies are informed enough from their surgeon and/or  NUT, they would know whether this is a good choice or not.

WE NEED CARBS!!!!!!!!! My Nut has told me that over and over and what she has said to me has obviously been working. I have not dumped nor have I gained back any weight. I am kicking booty! WE NEED CARBS honey. Thanks for posting this though!!! (((Hugs)))  I think the new people on the board are old enough to judge what they can and cant tolerate sweetie. But this shows again how you go above and beyond. Your a sweetheart!!

yes, some carbs are good, I never denied that but it also depends on WHERE those carbs come from.  A complex carb is much better for you than a processed carb.

And I'll re-state AGAIN that it's not what newbies can tolerate it's what choices they should be making.

AGAIN, it's not a matter of if it agrees with them, it's a matter of if it's a good choice for them.  Big difference.  Also, as stated before, not all newbies are properly informed enough from their NUT and/or surgeon.

Also at 2 g per 1/2 tsp and using 3/4 cup splenda brown sugar, that's about 48 carbs right there.  Not to mention how many carbs are in the apples themselves. (usually about 30+ a piece.)
