Jilly, you are so right...no two people are alike.  I can tolerate any sugar, which I fight with every day and I don't dump on it.   I try very hard to make things that are wls friendly and skip the sugar but I always have a day where I slip up.  The brown sugar from splenda I am sure can be a problem for some but if you look at the back of the package, you are using way less of that compared to regular brown sugar. My family didn't even realize that the apple crisp was made with Altern (the walmart brand of splenda which is about $1 less) and the splenda brown sugar.  The crisp for the dish is only on the top, it is not spread through out the inside of the dish.  There are definitely more apples in the dish then the crispy topping.  I just wanted to share with those of you that love apples and wanted something that tastes sweet without all the guilt of having it.

My NUT and my friends NUT at a seperate hospital both said it was fine........
IN MODERATION. So I think everyone has to use their own good judgement to say when enough is enough. It is a great thing to have at home though. And YUMMMM to add to recipes ;o) Mike is so making that this weekend for me. lol Thanks again your such a sweetheart!!!!

This sounds yummy! Apple Crisp is one of my favorite all time desserts.

I've got to ask why you post this particular recipe on a WLS support page tho?  It's not very WLS-friendly and my concern is that newbies that have not properly researched their dietary needs and nutritional requirements may read this as "hey, she's had WLS and she's posting the recipe so it must be good for us."   I don't see any protein or redeeming qualities about this recipe.

It is a great recipe for a yummy TREAT! Its not a MEAL its a TREAT! lol None of the PUMPKIN recipes are posted for protein either just for a TREAT. We all are adults everyone who has WLS is over 18 years old so they know how to judge for themselves what is okay and not okay for them. Everyone is different so we cant tell one person they will tolerate it and another they wont. They have to try for themself. Its a nice treat. Anything with fruit is a nice treat. You just cant over indulge which is a NO NO for ANYTHING!! I think it is very WLS friendly and my NUT would agree. We can't deprive ourselves of everything because that would put us back where we all started and NONE of us want that. You have to learn to live in MODERATION. I do that very well. I have been very successful in my surgery and am down 151 pounds in under 10 months so I know that I am on the right track. I have been helping a lot of the newbies out with recipes and such BUT they get recipes and other great advice from their surgeons office which is AWESOME!!! I think the more recipes that is shared on the board the better. If I see something I dont think I can tolerate I will not make it but if I see something I want to try...I will try it. So basically, to each's own. ;o)

I so agree with this concept Jilly.

If we say NO to everything  (later on of course) just to be on the straight and narrow, eventually we do not learn how to deal with everything that is thrown our way.

of course we want to believe that everyone is given GREAT instructions by their surgeon and NUT before surgery on how to re-integrate food into our lives and that we FOLLOW said instructions but EVENTUALLY you have to learn to think for yourself and figure out what works for you.

WHOA. it was not an attack, it was an observation.  I still don't get why posting something so really unhealthy on a WLS support board is considered a good idea, treat or meal?

And if you tell me you have not seen an over 18, under educated wls patient then I am in total shock.

Maybe you should put a disclaimer for newbies or someone that is looking to you for advise?

Notice, I never said anything about tolerances, my comment had nothing to do with tolerances, it was all about healthy vs. non-healthy and I don't see one surgery that does not advocate protein first, carbs last, especially those involving sweets. BTW, Splenda may sould good but it's got quite a few carbs itself, especially the brown sugar variety.

BTW one of the pumpkin recipes did have protein. I think it was pumpkin ricotta something.   Was that not yours?

Well we can ALL share on this board and then let everyone decide for themselves or talk to their Doctor about what is and isnt best for them. We dont PUSH any recipes on anyone we just SHARE! I think its a GREAT RECIPE....and some will tolerate it well and others may not. We have had people on here that posted during Easter that they ate CANDY GALORE and recipes with sugar etc and that is their choice. We cant tell people what to eat and what not to eat we can just share what we try and let them decide on their own. Everything is okay in safe moderation and depriving yourself of ANY treats is a BAD IDEA. Its not realistic by no means. I never said it was an attack? Everyone on this board has the choice to read it or not to read it, to try it or not try it. Thats all I am saying. I mean we all can agree to disagree. That is like me...I personally dont think people who failed at WLS should give advice on WLS but it happens all the time and I just chose not to read it. To eachs own, we are all adults on this board. Not an attack....especially over a recipe lol Im not that bored!! lol

Angie I think this whole board should be a disclaimer to Newbies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ALOT of people post things on here that are not good ideas, but my opinion is if they dont like the title then No one should open it :0)
