I need your honest opinions on my "Confessions"!

Instead of rewarding myself for hitting One derland. I've gained 2 pounds and really wanting to kick myself right now.  Insteading of hitting 199 i'm revisiting 203.

I went to NY last Friday to celebrate my B'day and i guess i over-did it and did things i know i should not have been doing.  Right now, there are so many things goin on with my finances and in my life that i can't seem to get focused but - THAT ALL ENDS TODAY. NOT ONE MORE DAMN POUND WILL I PUT ON AND SCREW UP THIS GIFT I'VE BEEN GRANTED.

FINANCIALLY, I HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY TO BUY MY PROTEIN PRODUCTS AND SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S BECUZ I'M NOT TAKING IN ENOUGH PROTEIN (I DO THE EAS SHAKES) OR IF IT'S THE LACK OF EXERCISE.  I eat Wendy's Chilli, SF pops and some soups but not much else. SO, I'M REACHING OUT TO ALL OF YOU AND CONFESSING THAT I'VE SCREWED UP AND NEED YOUR HELP.  CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF EXERCISE CAN I DO? CAN I DO SIT-UPS OR DO I JUST NEED TO START WITH MY TREADMILL AND WORK WITH MY FIRM CARDIO TAPES/hand weights.  AS AN INVESTMENT, WHAT  PROTEIN PRODUCT CAN I GET THAT WOULD HELP ME TO REVERSE THE PROCESS OF GAINING WEIGHT And Start Losing Again.

Also, becuz of the "Weight" of my problems i have going on right now - i have to also come clean and tell you that i've tried White Zinfandel Wine and so there u have it - I can take it, so bring it.

I get your "kick" I had gained 2 lbs when I went in to see Dr. A on my last visit - and I don't have a good reason, nothing I was doing had changed.  I am attributing my "gain" to PMS and stress over leaving for vacation.

After being upset for a while, I decided what it really was is motivation to get TOTALLY back on track.

As for exercise, that is up to your surgeon... Has he given you any restrictions on exercise this far out?  If not, you can do anything your body will allow you too!

I can tell you I learned more about myself in a week of vacation than I would have imagined.  I always knew I was a boredom eater - but by going out of my own enviroment I realized just how much of my eating is NOT out of hunger.  Even though we did NOTHING but lay on the beach/in the pool for a week, I was NOT at all hungry 99% of the time - and when I was, it wasn't starving hunger, but just, I think it is time to eat!

I also learned that I really don't like breakfast foods.  When it was a breakfast buffet everything appealed to me until it was time to put it in my mouth.  Then I just couldn't eat it!  Before surgery I would have at it all, and worried about starving children.  Now I just can't swallow it!  I did my protein shakes religously on vacation because I knew I couldn't get all my protein in like I do at home!

Weird fact - protein shakes taste better when carried to the bar and the bartender will add milk, banana and a bit of ice to the blender!

I have not gotten on the scale since we came back - but weirdly enough I still needed a seatbelt extender on the way to Jamaica - by about 3 inches... on the way home I did not?  It was the same plane (at least the same look and same staff...) but on the way home it fit... I am assuming the seatbelts from seat 10A to 14A are longer, but it was a pleasant surprise since I have needed one since I was 16!!

I am off to shower, I have come home with the flu and need to get another half hour of sleep before going to work today.

((( VENITA )))

Okay, I hope you feel better after beating yourself up, because you won't find that here!!

The EAS drinks ARE expensive, I know that.  However, if you're able to eat solid foods, and it sounds like you are, there are more inexpensive ways to get your protein in.  Hard boiled eggs - for some reason, I could do boiled, but not scrambled for a long time, homemade chili, any type of beans - you could buy a bag of dried, throw them in the crockpot and have beans a LOT, heck, even ground beef can be stretched with the addition of black beans.  The varieties are endless and can be cheap - you just have to be creative and do a little searching.

As for the exercise, well, I'm right there with you.  I eat pretty well 99% of the time, but don't exercise at all - I simply donate money to Bally's every month.  SIGH.  I personally think you should use whatever you have at your disposal - if you have a treadmill, go for it!!  Soon, it'll be cold out and with you losing padding (and you WILL continue to lose), it's going to feel like Canada, so you'll welcome the indoor treadmill!!

The only thing I'll say about the wine is, if you've only tried it, no harm.  If you're developing a frequent liking for it, stop.  Seriously.  It's not doing your body any good, it'll screw with your head, and it IS possible to develop transfer addictions.  With all that you've got going on in your life, that could happen easily, and that's a headache you DON'T need!!  I was 10 months out before I even TRIED some alcohol.  It's just not worth it!!!!

Please, please, please, stop beating yourself up!!  I KNOW you have a lot going on - this has been a sucky year for many of us, but we are here to support each other, so getchur butt back here for the love and support that you know awaits you!!!

Hugs,

Tia

Nothing much I can add that Angie and Tia haven't already said. I didn't do any alcohol till 8 months out and that was my birthday. I am definitely careful of how much I am drinking and if I feel like I am wanting it.

2 lbs up is absolutely nothing. We women will gain 5 lbs just ebcause our body decided to hold water in one day and the next week poof it's gone.

The fact that you put it out there for everyone to see means you know you need to do something different. When my weight loss had staleld, I started doing High Intensity Interval Training, where you jog/fast walk for 2-3 minutes, then run for 2-3. you only need to do 3-4 cycles of that to get your heart rate and metabolism up. When I started I was wlkaing for 4 and running for 1. Now I do 2 and 2.

With the protein, I don't buy any shakes for regular consumption; never have. I have a protein liquid supplement that gives you 16 gms of protein per tblsp (Liquacel). It might not taste the best but it's gone in a second.

I try and do a meat at every meal and if I'm craving a snack, I'll try to make it beef jerky or an eighth of a cup of cashews or something like that. Edamame are very high in protein and you can get a huge container of dried ones at stores for relatively cheap.

dust yourself off, plan a new plan and try it out!

I'm not that far out so my advice needs to be taken with a grain of salt,

you can get protein for $15.00 at walmart.  Body fortress comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies and cream.  it's a huge tub of it for $15  and I mix it with milk and ice in the blender.

as for exercise,  walk,  do your treadmill,  try some tapes... if you have on demand they have FIT TV or EXERCISE TV and you can do those too.

as for alcohol,  I Know that DVR tells us no alcohol for six months... I'm not a drinker so it won't be a huge issue for me....  but many folks have transfer addiction problems and switch their food addictions to things like shopping, exercise, sex or alcohol.   After all,  addictive personalities are addictive personalities...

IT took a lot of guts to come and post this....  I  hope you can figure it out soon.

The Wal*mart in Aberdeen has had the Body Fortress on sale for the past two weeks for $11.48 - I stocked up big time.

Venita - in my perception - and like others have said, we hit stalls, we gain weight, and sometimes it's just attributed to non-food items.  From what I understand, having enough protein helps you maintain and get lean muscle mass during your weight loss.  Well, muscle weighs more than fat.

I've read sometimes that there are these "pouch" trials that the ladies go through.  Tia, do you know what I'm talking about?  I think it's something to do with eating differently for one week, etc.

I've gained weight throughout the year and have stalled several times, the one most recent is these past weeks - I lost nothing for two weeks.  Whammo, this morning, I'm on the scale and saw that my stall finally broke.

Stress and excitement can cause the stalls.  I've been really excited about going on my vacation - and so I'm blaming that on why I didn't lose any weight for a couple of weeks.

And I will tell you, I've noticed that my stalls are right when I'm waiting to reach my personally set milestones.  I had the longest stall when trying to get into ONEderland - as soon as I stopped worrying about the scale, and prevented myself from throwing it at the wall, it happened.  My last stall, the most recent one, was right when I've been waiting for another milestone.

I think you're doing great!  We are all here for ya to root for you and to motivate ya!  ((((HUGS))))

there is a lower cost protein option that might be helpful to you. it will require you to add your flavorings, but honestly tha tmight be the best t hing since you know exactly what is in your shake.

it is egg white protein, has minimal taste. if you add some frozen fruit to it, it tastes great. also some cocoa and sweetener of choice works well too.

Nicole's post just gave me an idea.

can you have dairy?

do you like cottage cheese?

I think maybe you need to get back on track with protein first...

cottage cheese
eggs  (scramble one egg and one white  add some cheese)
tuna
what about beans?

Venita, I am by no means an expert but I will say that I think all advice given to you has been very good. The one thing that I will say is do not beat yourself up. It will do you no good at all. We all make mistakes and we learn by them too. We are all here for you and I know it is hard to get back on any food plan when there is stuff going on in your life. We all have problems and sometimes we need to take a break and then jump back on the train. I am sure you are very capable and I wonder could you call your doc or your nutritionist and ask for help? If so get on the phone. Do you go to any support meetings? Maybe that would help you as well. I wish you well and I will keep you in my thoughts. You are so brave and I am glad you are comfortable letting go here.
