Hello All,

I'm going through the motions of getting this surgery approved, and I need a psych eval. I can't find one, and I've been looking a couple of days now. I have BCBS FEP, and I'm having a hard time finding one on their website and was wondering if anyone else had BCBS and had a psych eval by someone in the BCBS plan. I live in Bowie so something close would help, but I'll take anything at this point.

Thanks in advance.

have you tried using the person your surgeon uses? normally each hospital has their own psych's they use. they are usually in network.

YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY!!! That is the best~est insurance EVER! I too have the Federal Blue Cross and with that you dont have to wait 6 months for surgery. I had a seminar in August and surgery Dec 4th. It could have been Oct but I wasnt home I was away the week they had open. So it will happen FAST if you want it to honey. Im so excited for you.

I saw Katherine Higdon but she is in Millersville Anne Arundel County. She does a TON for weight loss surgery patients though. I was in and out in 25 minutes and she signed off on my form. If you want to come back and see her you can if not she says Good Luck to you!!!

I think the BCBS website is where I got her info so they may have some on there in your area.

Good Luck and let me know if you need ANYTHING!!!!!!! (((Hugs))))) ~Jilly~

Thanks soooo much. You give me hope that this really won't be a hassle.  I met with the surgeon and nurse on Monday, and the nurse was like "we could have you in here in 2 months, depending on your schedule", which was really surprising because I've been under the impression that it would take months....like next April or something. Im hopeful now that if I wanted, i could get it done this year.

If I have too, I might use doctor.....regarless of the commute!

Thanks again!

Yes honey that insurance is a GODSEND! You know what you will get a bill for after everything.................hospital stay and all............................  $15.00 THATS IT!! ha ha ha
I was so in HEAVEN when I got that bill. And they are the ONLY insurance that does not require 6 mos diet before surgery because they figure we need it NOW not 6 months from now. Its awesome. I was shocked at how fast it went for me. Shoot........April nothing by April you will be 100 pounds lighter baby girl :o)

Jilly, I have BC&BS Federal also. When I called them they told me that I will have a 10% copay for the hospital and also I will have copay for doctors and anesthesia as well. Which plan do you have? I have FEP 105. I am really curious. I hear many stories and am beginning to wonder if the reps at BC&BS know what they are talking about.

Julie I have 105 too honey. They must have just changed the rules after the new year. I know the copay went up. My surgery was fully covered and all I had to pay was a co payment. It was AMAZING! But that was Dec 2008 so almost a year ago. I would ask them if it just went up. 10% is still good though because most of BCBS plans you have to pay 20% ;o)

Ok thanks I will call again and I hope I can get the right info. I just don't want any surprises when I finally have my surgery.

Who is your surgeon?  Does he/she have a referral?  Most do.  Good luck!  I have United Health Care and was approved within 48 hours and just needed a five year weight history.  Was approved in November, surgery scheduled for Dec, but I chickened out and rescheduled for May!  Good luck!

even though we have BCBS-FEP we had to abide by our surgeons rules.   as such we used his psych eval who is a LCSW.    are you sure you need a pyschiatrist?  won't an LCSW or psychologist do?
