Repost by request...Mock Fried Rice
This is really good and is a GREAT substitute for the real thing!
Mock Fried Rice
Ingredients
1 c. TVP
7/8 c. hot chicken stock
1 1/2 T sesame oil
1 lightly beaten egg
3/4 c. Birdseye classic mixed veggies or a combo of peas and corn
1 c. diced sweet onion
3/4 c. cooked and diced pork (or chicken or shrimp)
1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-spice
1/2 tsp. garlic
soy sauce to taste
Add TVP to the hot hicken stock and set it aside. Add oil to a heated wok or skillet, and when the oil is hot, add onion and sautee until soft. Add the rehydrated TVP, frozen veggies and pork. After stir frying for about 2 minutes, make a hole in the bottom of the wok by moving everything to the sides and add the beaten egg, chinese 5-spice, garlic, and soy sauce. After 30 seconds, stir everything together and stir for about a minute or two, then remove from heat and serve
Enjoy!

I don't really miss rice, pasta, potatoes, but I DO miss fried rice!!!!
I'm constantly amazed at the post-ops who are able to eat starchy stuff - to the point that they get sick, but they still do it.
If my pouch rebels, you can bet that's enough of a deterrent for me!!!!! I just can't stand that lead feeling!!

From Wikipedia:
Textured vegetable protein is a versatile substance, different forms allowing it to take on the texture of whatever ground meat it is substituting. Using textured vegetable protein, one can make vegetarian or vegan versions of traditionally meat dishes such as chili, spaghetti bolognese, sloppy joes, tacos, burgers, or burritos.
Textured vegetable protein can be found in natural food stores and larger supermarkets, usually in the bulk section. It is a major protein source for vegetarian and vegan diets.
- it doesn't really have a taste and takes on the taste of what it's cooked with.
