Im 2 months post-op and need a laxative. I dont have a way to the store for MoM atm but we do have exlax. Is it safe to take or should I just wait till tomorrow and buy MoM?

Andy -

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you.  Well, actually, I do - call your doctor.  Once you've had RNY, there are a lot of meds off limits to us, but I'm not sure about Ex-lax.

Just to be on the safe side, give your surgeon's office a call.  They should actually have a prepared list of acceptable/unacceptable meds for RNY patients.

Hugs,

Tia

I agree to call your doctor! My doc told me to use benefiber and MoM for constipation but that was around 6 months out so just to be safe I would def make the call to your surgeon!

Andy,

I suggest you call your doctor and ask.    I would probably wait as I think exlax is considered harsh.

I used fiber choice (just like the benefiber) chewable sugar free tablets before surgery.  I was told to use them by my doctor.

Hi Andy,

Like everyone said it is best to call your doctor.  My doctor told me to buy benefiber since you are early out the best bet would be to get the powder if your dr says it's ok.   It took about 3 to 4 weeks to be in my system to keep me regular.    Also up your fiber intake in your diet.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Andy -

Glad you got an answer from them.  Keep in mind, too, that extra fluid helps.  I know it's hard and you're not that far out, but the more liquid, the better.
