Is your surgeon a non-participating provider w/ insurance?

I know that Dr. Greene/Advanced Weight Loss Solutions is a "non-participating provider" with all insurance companies. Does that complicate things or add a significant expense to the surgery/fills?
Kim. Dr Pinnar is my surgeron, Dr. Greene's colleague. I chose the VA office because I liked their program better.
There is a good bit of out of pocket costs - nutrition program, psychological counseling, and then the % above and beyond what your insurance pays to cover your balance.
Dr. Pinnars fee is 9K and I am obligated to pay any balance that the insurance won't. I was told I should only expect my insurance to pay between $1000 and $2500 for the procedure. I pay the rest. (I am wondering if they only covered the band itself)
The hospital is covered but for me in Reston - I have to also pay out of network costs for the Anesthesiologist.
I am expecting to pay between $8 and $10K out of pocket.
It's frustrating when they are out of network because you don't know how much you will really be stuck with in the end.
I believe post op visits are covered 1 if not 2 years post op.
Hope this helps. I was frustrated with the financial part but I gave them a lump sum up first of almost $6K and they said they'd work with me on the rest.
I went with Dr. Pinnar soley based on his credentials from LAPBAND.com. I didn't even bother looking for a surgeon in network as I thought it was pretty slim to find one! I'm just not looking back on the money. I've invested it in me. It was my last choice!
If you are close by to Dr. Greene's let me know! I actually live near Shady Grove Hospital.

This is great info.
My company offers 4 or 5 insurance options and I chose the most expensive one for them to cover :) I'm fortunate that my insurance covers WLS (from my initial call) and has a number of surgeons in their network. Of course I'm not sure if I qualify yet but I think exploring my in-network options might be the way to go.
