What does everyone include in their fluid intake besides the obvious plain water?  Do you include tea, crystal light, milk, protein shakes etc etc.

I've been doing my daily logs for about 2 weeks on the daily plate and finding I am having issues getting in all my fluids - especially now because of my 1 hour no drinking rule after eating.

Just trying to follow the rules overhere!

Hi cutie pie. I just had something on my facebook about how I can never have enough fluids. lol

My surgeon stays ON ME about getting enough fluids in me during the day.

I have 2-3 cups of decaff coffee every  moring and I add protein powder to the last cup. :o)

I drink unsweetened ice tea with splenda and fresh lemon ALL DAY LONG! I drink hot tea sometimes and no sugar added swiss miss hot choc too. I cant tolerate milk at all and cant have juice. So I stick to the tea mainly. I do buy bottled water and the crystal light cherry pom powder and drink that from time to time too. ;o)

Oh and Fudgesicles....atleast 2 a day and I have to count them as my fluids LOL ;o)~

Nikki...anything decaffeinated can count towards your fluid intake.  Anything caffeinated is supposed to be supplemented with something decaf, as caffeine is a diuretic which is dehydrating as opposed to hydrating.  So, if you drink 8 oz. of regular coffee or tea, you should then drink 8 oz. of water, crystal light, juice, etc to counterbalance the diuretic effects.  Further, if you drink 100 oz. of liquids and 20 oz. of that is something with caffeine...you've only had 80 oz. towards your daily fluid intake goal.

Also, I know all surgeons are different but mine only gives the 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating rule for drinking.  I've done more research since surgery and have found that it doesn't hurt to drink up until the point of eating and then waiting 30 minutes afterwards is sufficient.

I include water, crystal light, protein shakes and milk. Just like Heather said, my surgeon also told me it has to be decaffienated to count towards your fluid intake so make sure if you are drinking tea its decaf. Early out it is HARD to get fluids in but trust me it will get MUCH easier!

I'm still having a hard time getting all of my fluids in, but it seems to be getting easier. I can't do plain water at all. My pouch just doesn't like it, so I've been doing a lot of Crystal Light, Fuze (low-carb), and flavored waters.
