Wow Moment for me

This is copied from my blog. I know as a pre-op and freshly post op I LOVED LOVED hearing people accomplish wow moments. This one was very huge for me and nearly brought me to tears when I realized the ease I accomplised it with. It really is amazing how much this surgery has changed my life!!!

And so here is my Wow moment:

OK so here's the thing. While I have been working out pretty intensely since I had RNY I really have not been 'running'. I have been working out with a personal trainer and doing step aerobics and kickboxing. The reason I have not really tried to run much is well because it intimidates me. Every time I have tried to run I have to stop like after sixty seconds or so. I have recently been walking and jogging a bit more to try and up my endurance. However, I never did it on a treadmill so I wasn't sure how long or how far I was actually running. Well yesterday, I go to the gym and completed an hour workout class. After wards, I am feeling pretty good still and decide, well maybe ill hop on the treadmill for a while. I did a quarter mile fast paced walk and then decided ok April its time to test yourself, so I started jogging. I jogged a quarter mile and was feeling great and decided to keep going. So then I hit a half mile and said well shoot I just keep going. I got to 3/4 of a mile and said ok April GO FOR THE MILE, so I cranked the treadmill up to full blast running speed and sprinted the last quarter mile. I was so ecstatic when that treadmill reached one full complete mile of jogging and I had not stopped ONCE!!!! I almost was in tears because I was so proud of myself. When I began this journey I set out for one of my goals: TO BE ABLE TO RUN A MILE, and I can proudly say I can!! What a WOW moment for me. Now its time to shoot for 2 miles and on, because I am gonna RUN that 5K in the spring!!

I commented on your blog too, so I'll keep this short but, ummmmm, YEY YOU!!! I'm pre-op and this blows my mind. I've actually just spent the last 5-10 mins thinking...what if I COULD run one day? Wouldn't that just blow everyone's mind (including mine)? Me...a runner. HA!

Good for you - that IS a WOW moment!!!!

Thank you Laura! One year ago, I never would have imagined I could be a runner so know that it is very possible that you WILL be a runner. I could barely walk a mile before without feeling winded and yesterday I jogged a mile like it was nothing! So know that with your tool you will accomplish amazing things!! This journey will certainly blow your mind along the way!

Best of luck to you!

Girl you know how near and dear you are to me!! I always say with the RNY I lost weight and my obesity and gained my health and a wonderful group of friends. I honestly probably could have run farther than the mile but since I already had been working out for an hour already I thought I better stop before I overtrained. lol Imagine that someone that was once almost 350 lbs now talking about stopping at the gym for fear of over training!! lol

I am sure you are gonna smoke everyone in the 5K tomorrow. I know how much you love to run!!

Love you to girl!! You and Mike are truly a blessing as friends!

AWESOME!!!!!! I still haven't attempted running for a mile :) I do the fast walk and then run as interval training. You just motivated me to try and run next time for a mile.

How EXCITING!!!  I have wanted to start running, but am not overly ambitous about it.   Congratulations for setting and meeting your goal.  Thanks for sharing it with all of us.... you also write beautifully.  I could envision you on the treadmill as I read your words! Good imagery!

~hugs~
