Quick Post Op Hello
Hi everyone. I read all the post from Tia's message. Thanks so much!
It has been a very rough past couple of days. The hospital stay was great, however. Getting home to my own bed, not so much.
I am very sore to the point where it's so difficult to get up. If I am flat or sit back to far I need help.
The majority of my pain came from the air they pump up your stomach with it. I could not pass ANY of it for about 36 hours. It made my right home beyond unbearable. One I started passing some, the pain got better and better.
I still have my moments of nausea and I've also been up and down with a low fever making me feel crappy. It's very hard to take a deep breath without discomfort. Thank the lord for all my drugs.
I've been walking around a good bit but today is the first day i felt up to sitting up on the computer.
I wish the pain in my left shoulder would STOP. They said the pain can happen from anesthesia which is weird to me but ok and of course i have it.
I am trying to get in my fluids but im often getting this knot feeling where I get my new tummy and the band is so I am trying to take it slow. The though of a protein shake right now makes me sick. The smell of food and food commercials were also making me sick but the past day or so I have this weird hunger feeling.
We that's all for now. I will check in soon.
Best,
Nikki

Glad to hear your home Nikki and that for the most part all went well. Unfortunately the gas pain is part of the routine, but it should subside here soon. Like you I had a problem getting up and down, I found sleeping in a recliner for the first week was much easier.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Welcome to the losers bench!!

YAY!!!!! Glad to hear your home and well Nikki. When I get pain in my shoulder its gas. I was told if I chew gum or drink from a straw or gulp drinks I will get that intense shoulder pain and OMG I HATE THAT FEELING!!! I hope you feel better soon. I dont know too much about the band but I do know its just as tough to get use to as the RNY. I hope your feeling back to your normal self soon. (((Hugs)))
Good to hear from you! Oh the gas!!! That's also the cause of your shoulder pain! It takes time, but will get better. Mine was so bad, the Dr. told me to do an enema, as it was a week, and still lots of pain. Nikki, you are on your way, everyday will be better than the day before! Remember 2 weeks ago, and you wondered if you'd ever make it? WELL YOU MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!
See they're all cheering for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nikki, sorry to hear you have had a rough time. I do hope things will get better for you soon. I am sure it is hard to get comfortable with the amount of gas you are having. I had that after my 2 C sections and can remember a wicked nurse saying walk walk and sip water. It took a while to go away even after a enema. I hope you feel better soon and you can get on with your new life...

That pain in your shoulder is called "referred pain," and I didn't understand it, either, but it felt like someone was stabbing my shoulder.
Walking will help with the gas. I know it's hard, but just remember, your body's been through major surgery. Just hang in there and get in as much of your fluids and proteins as you can. Make sure you write everything down, because your doctor will want to know when you go for a follow-up.
Hang in there,
Tia
Hi Nikki,
Glad you're home and on your way. The pain in your left shoulder is not uncommon. With any laproscopic procedure, you will have gas pain and it does take a while for your body to absorb and dispose of it. Moving around is the best thing you can do. As far as being uncomfortable sleeping, I slept best on the sofa for the first few nights with my back up against the back of the sofa. Just having that back support helped me. I also slept with a very small neck roll under the side of my abdomen to give it some support. A lot of people have different suggestions that helped them. Hopefully, one or two will give you some relief.
Hang in there. It will get better, I promise. Oh, and by the way, just wanted to mention to you that after you dispell all the gas, that same left shoulder pain can be one of the soft stop signs for bandsters once you are eating solids. So if it recurs at that point, just wanted you to be aware.
Keep looking forward and feel free to PM me if I can help with specific band-related questions you may have.
