SEPTEMBER 11: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

Leslie -

I took Darla and company there in April when we went.  It WAS amazing. It also happens to be the church where George Washington prayed after his inauguration - when NYC was the capitol of the country.  Steeped in history - I get chills every time I walk in there.

8 years ago today, Tia -- I still lived in NYC and was @ home in the Bronx that morning.  I had overslept for an appointment i had scheduled that morning and a friend from California called me to ask me what was going on in Manhattan. when i tried to turn on the TV to see it, i couldn't because the signals had been lost and i couldn't get anything on the TV.  I went downstairs in my building and met my neighbors screaming and crying in fear and panic for their loved ones downtown.

It's hard for me to reflect back to Sept. 11th because you see its where a lot of pain lies for me and i can still feel it; yet i have to reflect in order to pray every 9/11 anniversary  for the families of the victims we all mourned for.

I worked for Goldman Sachs on Broad Street (near Wall Street) and was making a lot of money as a Floater assisting the Brokers.

After Sept 11, I began to suffer with panic attacks and could no longer ride the subway to get to work because the media was saying that the subway would be hit next and how masses more of people would die.

My friends and my aunt walked that day from Manhattan to Brooklyn & the Bronx (not to mention the many other people that traveled by foot covered in Ash to all Boroughs to reach their homes where they could feel safe - well i don't know if it was possible to feel safe that day anywhere!)

Some would be saved because they were running late to get to work at the Towers.

Sept. 11th  certainly did change my life and it's the reason i relocated to Baltimore in 2003. NY has never been the same to me since because when i'm arriving via the Lincoln Tunnel or from the Turnpike you could see the Towers from afar and you knew you were back in the Big Apple. Well, they took that away from me and so much more.

Oh yeah, i remember exactly where i was on 9/11 and my life has never been the same since.

Carol, Your story gave me chills. I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad you are safe and able to speak about this. I pray for healing and love to surround you. I hope you have a peaceful day and may God bless you and keep you near.

Venita -

Honey, I'm generally not rendered speechless, but you've managed to make it so.

God bless you and your family.

WOW Carol, never knew this about you (I'm a lurker but read the board almost daily - sorry for the intrusion).
Heavy words girls.
I was pregnant with my son.  I wasn't due until November but when he decided to arrive mid September I couldn't help but think exactly what kind of world I was bringing him into.
E's good buddy was born on this day 8 years ago - right around 1030.
The only book about 9/11 I've ever read was called 102 Minutes - that was enough for me.
Peace

Venita,

I know exactly how you feel, that day definitely changed my life forever. Whenever I go home to visit it doesn't feel the same especially when I don't have the WTC there anymore we drive thru the Verrazano Bridge and you look where there were standing and it looks empty.  It makes really sad.

((((((((((((((((((((((((Big hugs Venita))))))))))))))))))))))

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

You know, Cira, I honestly DON'T know how EMS providers can even manuever through the streets in NYC.

Just think....if you were still there....you likely would've been right in the thick of things....

Tia thank you so much for posting this. I drove my son to school this morning and that is all that was on my mind. Then the rain. I thought  what was the purpose for all this rain then it hit me the rain are tears from those who were lost on 9/11. They are trying to tell us they were so sad and to never forget. I feel very sad and uneasy today. My heart is heavy and still hurts. I will light a candle tonight in remembrance of those we lost and remember that our world has changer forever.
I was listening to a show that Ed Norris is on and he related a story from years back when he was on the NYPD. He told of a time he went into a home on police business and found a file cabinet with many pictures of the World Trade Center and The Twin Towers. They arrested 2 people but they were later released and then one of them bombed the WTC. Ed Norris felt that this attack could have been prevented. He stated that no one listened to him. This is so sad and I hope we never experience this tragic event again...

Stay safe and never forget.....

God Bless The United States of America and the Men & Women who are fighting each day so that we will be safe..

Julie -

That's a wonderful analogy about the rain.  I love it.

I worked for Ed Norris for a short period of time - his political/personal dealings aside, he was a very socially astute man and always spot on in his assessment of the social/political climate.  He was truly a cop's cop.

Tia, I know nothing about Ed Norris. I  just flipped around the stations and caught his show one day. He has some intresting things on his show at 105.7. So I tune in and listen just to be different. He sounds very believable but I do not know much of anything about his past. He is really for the Police and I commend him for that. I also hear he does alot of charity events.
