Question about sugar in foods

So I'm reading labels for sugar content, as I am terrified of dumping this early out, but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for and how much is okay before I head into dumping territory. For example, I have Light and Fit yogurt with the fruit in it that is supposedly no sugar added, but I noticed there is fructose listed in the ingredients, so I'm afraid to eat it. Peanut butter has 3 grams of sugar per serving, which is 2 TBSP. So far I've eaten a TSP or 2 of it, but I'm not sure if I can eat more without worrying about dumping. Any insight? Thanks!

I think a rule you can go by is 5 gms or less per serving.

Also, if sugar or any form of sugar (fructose etc) is within the first 5 ingredients you should stay away from it. That is just my rule that I learned from OA many years ago.

Everyone of us is different. I for example don't dump. I do start feeling pretty icky if I eat something w/ tons of sugar like ice cream but the normal stuff like you had listed (yogurt, pb) don't affect me at all. Most of us don't dump actually. Only approximately 20% of us do. I really think it's trial and error. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about dumping if you are taking the smaller bites.
We had the same surgery day, I believe, and I just started pureed foods and I'm doing just fine.
You should refrain from the sugar, as you have been. Fructose is a major sugar source.
I have heard that there is a yogurt made by Kroger that is delicious and is sugar free. I was also told to just eat the smooth yogurt right now, not the kind with chunks of fruit. (I love Dannon with fruit!)
Hope this is helpful.
God bless you!

My doctor goes with the rule of 5 grams.  nothing over that for sugar.  So far at a year I've been pretty safe.  Sometimes I'll stretch it to 7 but if it's that much I try to eat it in increments so I'm not getting it all at once.

Hi Brandi :o) My Doc says not to go over 8grams per serving UNLESS it has a lot of NATURAL SUGAR in it. Like the Greek yogurts are high in sugar but most of that they say is NATURAL SUGAR and is okay. I am a stickler when it comes to sugar. I can tolerate a regular cookie with 8 grams of sugar more then I can a sugar free cookie with 4 grams of sugar alcohol in it. The sugar alcohol is what makes me SICK. lol I have learned to listen to my body. And it tells me........but everyone is different honey. Good luck to you sweetie.
