Fluids - we strive to achieve 64 ounces of fluids - which can be water, tea, water with flavor added, milk, protien shakes, etc.
Vitamins - the RNYers and other surgical types have I believe 2 multivitamins, 3 + calciums, B12 sublinguals if they are not doing the monthly injections, and other vitamins as prescribed or suggested.
Lapband - I haven't been taking my vitamins, therefore I don't announce that. But each doctor has their own requirements for banders or should I say they "suggest" you take the vitamins. I did take the same vitamins as the RNYrs in the beginning as my body was having to adjust to a drastic reduction in foods due to the restriction.

Also - if you drink caffienated coffee and tea - we tend to add on to our fluid intake requirements, as they do not "count" towards fluid intake. For example, I drink a 24 ounce coffee in the morning - it doesn't count towards my fluid intake so I still have to find the 24 elsewhere, which is usually through another PowerAde bottle. Tia can explain the coffee thing to you when she gets a breather.
Ok! I think I am straight now. Just was curious about the liquid requirements. I drink mostly crystal lite and have always drank that! Not huge on coffee but LOVE my Chai tea from Starbucks but they are Latte's so it will be awhile before those.
I've been adviced to take a multivitamin as well as calcium. Nothing major.
I think I am all set. Still counting down 11 days!

Yes, caffeine is a diuretic and can easily dehydrate you, that's why it's important to drink extra water if you drink a lot of coffee and tea. I won't even scare you by telling you how much fluid I drink during the day (in excess of 150 oz.), but keep in mind - I'm 4+ years out, too!
As far as vitamins - I take 2 chewable multi's, 4 chewable calciums and a chewable B-12. Like Candy said, lapbanders have different vitamin requirements, and in fact, some surgeons, regardless of the type of surgery, have different regimens. The important thing is to follow YOUR doctor's guidelines - you can't go wrong that way!
Hugs,
Tia
