HELEN UPDATE
I just talked to Helen - she was overjoyed to have just eaten solid food!!! WOO-HOO!!!!
Dr. Vanguri came in, pronounced that she could eat and she was brought a standard tray like all the other patients - Salisbury steak, squash and rice. Now, of course, I questioned the squash (with seeds) for a patient with diverticulitis, and the rice for a bariatric patient, but she didn't eat either of those anyway, and was able to finish about 1/4 of the steak.
So things are looking up! They're still not giving her a definite go-home date, they're just taking it day by day!
Thanks,
Tia

I questioned the WHOLE MEAL!! However, since her doctor decided right as the trays were coming to give her solid food, I guess that's all they had. Franklin Square, unlike GBMC, does NOT have a dedicated bariatric wing. Some of the nurses had NO clue about what her diet should be!!
Hopefully, she'll be home soon enough so she can get on track with healthy eating.

Thanks for the update on Helen. It seems she is getting better, slowly but surely. I can't wait for her 1st post, I'm sure it will be a hoot! She probably didn't even complain about the food, since it has been so long since she has had any. That is the only way they get their patients to eat the food, starve them for a while first!!
